A 10-year-old girl has been released from hospital after undergoing surgery when she was badly mauled by a Staffordshire bull terrier.
Emergency crews were called to an area close to Alanbrooke Barracks at Thirsk on Thursday evening.

The girl was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where she needed surgery on her cheek.

The dog's owner, a woman aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control in public.

The animal was put down.

Smile i hope she gets 10 years and wonder how many different breed attack people on the same day.....

With so much focus on the breed, a new license should and perhaps will be implemented for owners of a staffie.

Cant see a ban though, no way can the government even justify it.

they dont need to justify anything if the media wants to they can put the pressure on the powers that be.... look at APBT's that was the media that helped ban them. so whats the difference in banning staffys... nothing... i think they should ban the numptys that own them. its the minority that is going to spoil it for the rest of the responsible owners of this breed...

i do get worried to at times Smile if they do get ban i will still have staffie, i'm sure people will still breed them too but i cant see them getting ban the police have alot more things to worry about then dogs like terrorism, drug dealer, gun crime, burglaries and pervs and i dont think this country has anuff money enforce a ban

this what will happen you probably have to get a license and muzzle your dog when you go in public place if you dont u will get a big fine

staffies,so unfairly labeled the poor mans pitbull...bred by idiots.when I was trying to buy a staff I was shocked at what I found.
a young pup for sale for £80 I emailed the girl at 10.30pm at night she emailed back saying, where do you live Im not being funnny but can you get him tonight I really wanted him gone by today..she didnt know me from adam, she lived in kent me in essex & I had never even met the pup.another woman had a litter of puppies & was put out when I said she lived far & I wouldnt want a young pup to travel so far on the train in the cold winter, she couldnt see the problem & was quite rude.others selling pups & the dad too who was only 9 months old.
A friend of mine has a staff he thinks his staff has a lock jaw & he must have a "aggy name"
too many ignorant people have given staffies a bad name, they are also called chav dogs,so many of them get a staff to look hard, these poor dogs are being sold on cheap after a few months or whenever they have had enough.there are so many staffies in rescue homes,a place in south london will spay & neuter them for free because they want to stop the callous over breeding.a pdsa vetaid hospital on the borders of east london & essex have at least 5 abandoned outside every week, just tied up & left there.

Every well looked after staffie I have ever met as been soft as poo I just love these dogs,I read so much online & I knew a staffie was for me,bullet proof lover of kids, with 3 sons that has to be the one,I got lucky after months of time wasters & people who made me cringe I got my pup off a lovely couple who staff had got pregnant by accident, but had 5 gorgeous pups, they came to my house & checked me out, thats how it should be,but too many people just dont care all this has given the dogs a bad name which they dont deserve
I prefer the old name for them, the nanny dog.
