STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS OUT OF CONTROL
10:00 - 04 January 2008
After the Telegraph's reporting of the attack by three Staffordshire
Bull Terriers on a puppy out with its owner in People's Park, we hear
of the tragic mauling to death of a one-year-old baby by a Rottweiler
in another part of the country.
Of
the local incident, the police spokesperson apparently said no action
would be taken because it was a dog on dog attack. The report on the
attack on the baby resulted in the dog being put down and added that
while the Rottweiler breed is not among those banned under the
Dangerous Dogs Act, ' any' dog is subject to the legislation if deemed
out of control.
According to the Telegraph report on the
People's Park incident, the Staffordshire Bull Terriers were very much
out of control of both their owner and the man trying to protect his
puppy. All of which suggests to me that lack of police action seems
more about indolence than impotence - not dissimilar to the derisory
caution given to the bloke who threatened a shop owner with a baseball
bat before robbing him - and the Telegraph knows my views on that.
Keith Baldock, Cambridge Road, Grimsby.
It is explained in the same report how a rottweiler mauled a baby to death yet the staff's still get the bad comments, so sad.
Name: Kate.
Location: Grimsby.
Comments: Staffies should
be banned - people only have them to look 'hard'! It's for nothing
other than status. These nasty creatures shouldn't be allowed as pets,
and these ones that did this to this poor little dog should be put
down. What if this was a little child that they had got hold of?
Name: Mark Cuerton.
Location: Grimsby.
Comments: Staffies
and other status symbol (Bill Sykes) kind of dogs are generally okay
with people, but I know someone who thought it 'entertainment' when his
tough dog ripped into a cat or even another dog. Not every time, but
more often than not, these scrapping dogs are an extension of the
owner's personality. I say muzzle them.

This isn't about one breed as most peeps can't tell a Staffie from a Pit or an AmStaff. This is about ignorance and the media having a field day. If it sells they print it even if it is made up. So much for freedom of press.
As owners of Bull Breeds we need to educate, it does not do to come across as aggressive. We need to explain thatr it is the owners not the dogs and even if we are still met with ignorance, we cannot afford to loose our cool.

I also did not like the stafford breed, after one attacked my older Rottie,a good boot to the head put a stop to it & it didnt hurt my Rottie he had elephant skin & thought he was playing the dope he was,it was only after my mate shown me what her Staff was like, i then did alot of reading up on the breed & then got one i have never up to yet regreted it & that goes for my Rottie aswell i have had these for over 12 years

Re: A rottweiler kills a baby yet staffies get the bad press....
Mostly it down to the owners example, went out today, lady came out petshop with a GS,she was walking it on a harness
she had no control of the dog, pulled her right across the road,me & OH just watched as she was telling him he is a naughty boy
why do people have dogs they can not control.get a small dog for gods sake.Leave the big dogs for people who have the knowledge on the breed
Some say its genetic aswell, bad breeding but either way its always the small children who pay the price for their stupidity

its so annoying that when any fighting breed of dog attacks someone the staffy always gets the blame, yes they lok alike but any idiot can see up close that in actual fact it was not a staff, just seems the easy thing to do, blame it on a poor innocent staff
