Worried about Rustys bizarre behaviour?
Hi Staffy owners ...
I cant believe I havent been on the site for a while, slap wrists. Doesnt time evaporate so quickly ...
Were concerned about our Rusty.
1) we havent spotted any flea's etc, but he has developed slight balding behind both ears. We give him a nice rub on the back of the neck and that stops him paw scratching, He loves a good old rub, his face all scrumples up with wrinkles and he has a big smile whilst talking to us in staffy noises. Any advice, on the balding ??? should we front line him anyway?
2) the worries we have ...
Yesterday he began shivering and teeth chattering (no apparant reason, we were indoors as usual, it was a fine temperature ... etc
Then throughout the day/evening/night he appeared to have weird absents, e.g showing a smile but then holding the pose for a few minutes, staring at the walls. and generally being out of sorts, then may be spasming whilst lieing down/shivering. but generally being out of sorts.
Its all quite odd. We have had 2 wonderful walks on exmoor (he's loved been out in the open for a few hours). he has enjoyed his regular walks the other times, 3 a day (2 small toilet stop ones, and one good walk i.e an hour. He has been fine out, all the regular poops and pee's. and his behaviours been fine, nothing odd and if he can doing the getting a carcus and doing staffy shakey shakey (ive previously posted items regarding finding scents and animal carcuses, and we are working on that side of things, ok). Generally rusty is a perfect little chap.
Perhaps he is just having an off moment, but it was really quite worrying for a moment, you all know how us owners feel and get worried for our amazing companions.
Anyone else experienced any of this?
Love to hear from you all ???
Hope everythings groovy with you all?
With a woof and atail wag and some licks
Best
Jon, Sky and of course Rusty

Re: Worried about Rustys bizarre behaviour?
I'm sorry I can't comment on the "spaced out" moments, if it continues I would definitely take him to a vet, the balding could be a mite called demodex that causes the hair to fall out totally leaving just bald patches, no scabs etc.
To be perfectly honest, the combination of the balding, the shivering and the concentration lapses could all be a sign of something and I would take him to the vets and explain

Re: Worried about Rustys bizarre behaviour?
Has be been done? Some males can get like this when a bitch near by is in season? If he has been done, then you can rule that out - unless he was only recently done.
As for the loss of fur behind the ears, my bitch is quite bald behind her ears, but nowhere else, it's just a thin fur area sometimes. If you notice it spreading then it could well be demodex - or a food related allergy.
If you are still concerned and this behaviour continues, then take him to the vets.
