RAW EGGS??

Post by ster0024 on Thu 22 Oct 2009, 02:14

Hi Guys reading some disscussions on diet I noticed quiet a few people feed their SBT raw eggs. What is the nutirents in a raw egg for a dog? Do you feed them a whole one? I give my boy some natural yourgot for breakie and Im thinking if an egg is good from them maybe I might mix it up and give him a raw egg some mornings. What do others think?

Well Helloooo again!

Have a read here.

http://www.asianonlinerecipes.com/health-fitness/nutrients-eggs.php

Many also give their dogs the whole egg shell & all. I havent. I only give them the egg in their food.

Mine get raw eggs. Mostly I make this horrid sauce for their food - plain yogurt, eggs and tuna/sardines all blended together - sometimes I'm lazy so I just beat a raw egg in each bowl and mix their kibble in or I'll just break an egg over the kibble.

I just give mine a whole egg in its shell and they carry it very gently outside lift their heads up and drop it to break it, they eat the egg and the shell.

To minimise mess and smelly egg everywhere I just crack the egg into their bowls and chuck the shell in after then give it to them. Im pretty sure it would end up all over the sofa otherwise!

I gave Beth a raw egg, shell and all in the yard. She thought it was a great new toy and kicked it about a bit. When it broke she looked confused, thought it looked vaguely edible, so scoffed the lot.

Kept her amused for five minutes. Result!

We gave Bo a raw egg and she seemed to enjoy it, but it didn't really agree with her at all, same with scrambled egg. But as loads of people have already said theirs do have them and are fine so all dogs are different.

thanks for your comments, I gave Boston his first egg this morning. First I gave him the whole thing outside to see if he would break it and eat it all but he looked at it then looked at me with a blank look...So I crack it in his bowl and he lapped it up like no tomorrow! but then again i think he likes anything and everything ( little piggy ) Ill give him an egg once a week for that protein , next time ill try the shell too see how that goes.

I forgot to add that I don't give mine eggs in the shell because we get on farms quite a bit and if they know that the yummy stuff is inside a shell they'll steal eggs and eat them. I'm just avoiding a potential problem as my trainer has free range hens and there are nests where they can get eggs.

LOL Smile

The vet seemed generally happy with the RAW diet - although we spoke at great length about pro & con's - I have a leaflet somewhere at home with all the blah on it - there were concerns about cross contamination with meats and obviously some meats have certain nasty bugs present - etc but she seemed fairly happy that the boys were healthy - we have followed this diet for some time now - our breeder also feeds hers raw too and she has approx 25 dogs -

Does this answer your Q Smile

oooh! that would NOT go down well lol, very wise idea!

I know of a lot of people who feed raw but very few vets who advocate it...well why would they when they get profit from Science plan etc...!

Kind of, the point I was making was most vets hate RAW and BARF diets and will use worst case scenario on all points, which is what that websites done. If however you have a vet who is understanding about it why not ask her the risks of raw eggs and see what she says?

It might be an idea to ask her about what kind of % risk there is for the eggs and the meat you may be able to get a better idea of the risk.
