I cert can be confusing kel but at its a good thing that Oscar's health is A OK otherwise. Your vet(s) seem to be looking at every avenue & that's great news for Oscar. I'm also glad to hear they can do the xrays there so he doesnt have to travel to far & will be back home sooner on the best medication for him as well. Hope the xrays if the prob so Oscar can get back to himself soon.

Hope Abbie is also feeling better today.

Glad Abbie is feeling better today & I'm sure oscar is loving his massages but I'm not sure how much help the oil will be if they think it's his spine that's the prob? Still, It cert wont do any harm & the massage will make him feel relaxed & happier. I know i feel happier after a massage.

Yeah I know, but try not to stress too much as he will pick up on it & wonder why you are worried & maybe start worrying himself. Molly will also notice if you are stressed. I dont think the vets would put him under if they were concerned and as they say his health it great otherwise. . . with remain here with fingers crossed for you all. Take care, hug that boy for me & let me know how he goes please.

they said they can do it weds if we wanted but next week my partner has a weeks hoilday so it will be easier then as i cant lift him in and out of the car on myself and then we can both be at home to help him recover etc. and there will allways be someone at home to keep an eye on him i wont have to be rushing around doing the school run either as the kids are on hoildays.

Hi Staffie2

Thanks for the update - we all appreciate it - even though it must be very difficult ./ upsetting for you to update us on Oscars progress - we are all supporting you through this - big hugs to you and your family and of course Oscar.

Sorry I could get on line earlier to wish you good luck -

I was thinking of Oscar at lunch time - hope you don't mind me mentioning this -

but do you have one of those dog feeding / water bowls that are higher off the ground - just thought it may help Oscar be a little more comfortable - he won't need to bend when eating or drinking -

Have you seen them around?

great minds think alike Smile xx

I just had a thought and had to share it with you - hope you get one - Oscar will love you for it Smile

If you have a handy hubby maybe he could make one - but if he is like my OH then that would be out of the question lol

I wonder if they do heated coats too - maybe the warmth on his back would help Oscar too - do they do such a thing????

Hi Kelly

Glad to hear Abbie is much better, she looks so cute.

Hope you have had a good day with Oscar. How did his massage go?

PS you can get the hi-low bowls on e-bay too. Only know cos I was looking for Diesel the other day, but if you get one from there- remember the postal strike this week!

Big hug to Oscar

I can only sympathise with you and your family - it is heartbreaking having to come to terms and admit that the your beloved pooch's quality of life has to be taken into account.

It is never nice having to face this option - but we have to bear in mind which is the best option - our dogs are a member of our family who loves you unconditionally and it is the hardest decision to make, ad knowing if the decision we take is the correct one.

I would discuss your concerns with the vet on Tuesday - they will give you their honest opinion with Oscar -

I sympathise with you - and will be thinking of you - keep us informed xx

You are definately not having a moan - you are obviously upset and need some reassurance xx

Big hugs to you & Oscar - love Suzie T

Hi Kelly
Just wandering how your weekend has been with Oscar? How is the handsome chap doing?

Did you manage to get one of the high/low dog bowls the other day? If so have you found it good?

I have just ordered some Emu Oil off of E-bay for Diesels back legs.
Wishing you lots of support and big hugs for Tuesday- please keep us posted on how it goes.

Staffie 2 I am so sorry to hear he has been so unwell. Please do not feel like you are moaning, it is amazing how much support you can get from the forum at times like this. The support I had when Jack was ill was fantastic as none doggy lovers do not understand how you feel.
I really hope it is good news on Tuesday, however if it is not, remember that the last good thing you can do for your baby is end their suffering. It will be hard for you I know but it will be for the best if that is what the vets suggests. I will keep everything crossed for you on Tuesday.

Wishing you & Oscar all the best for tuesday Kel. Staffylover is so right. It is the hardest thing to decide if you are in that situation but Oscar's quality of life must always be 1st priority.

& no one thinks you are moaning. We all understand how much you love Oscar just as we have come to.

Hugs on their way over from us as well!
from me!
from Jessie!
from Tyson!
& one for Oscar too!

(Just a thought, you could buy a plastic backed blanket which is generally meant for the car to put over Oscar's bedding. His bed will keep him nice a comfy & the blanket will stop any soiling of his bed & can just be thrown in the wash as needed.)

ok we are back this is going to be long so bear with me again as iam not good explaining things.
ok so oscars had his xrays and ive been to get him the vet has said his xrays show he dosent have any thing of arthritus what so ever!! unlike two years ago before we changed vets when he had xrays with the stupid vet at pah who said his xrays showed early signs of it. his cartalige in his hip joints is absolutly normal and so are the bone sockets surounding it . its not a slipped disc either.
its more than likley nerve damage or some kind of torn nerve on the xray the damaged part is at the end of his spine bone and you can see the part where he means as its sepereated more than the other spinal bones. he said he dont know whats caused it?
the only way is to find out 100% that its anything else is for the mri scan but after today we are not putting him though any kind of anthesectic again he is still fast sleep and they said its because of his age he can take longer to recover. he still cant stand up iam glad we know what it is now and how to go forward.
its just a case of giving him the painkillers along with some hydrotherpy and phiso and enjoying what time hes got left with us i have tried to explain it best i can thanks for all your surpport eveyone ill keep you posted on how hes doing.kelly.x

Gosh Kelly you must feel so confused! To be told he has arthritis and now to be told he hasnt.
Only to be told it could be nerve damage!
I bet you are just glad that he is back home with you where you can give him plenty of TLC.

Personally I think you are making the right decision not putting Oscar through another GA due to his age. I know when Diesel had his MRI- we were please to find out what had happened to him but they were only 85% sure of the diagnosis, so we did feel really guilty for putting him through all of that only to be told an 85% diagnosis.

Did the vet say what his prognosis could be after the physio?

I know you will, but just make sure you give him lots of extra cuddles and kisses, all you can do is make him as comfortable as possible. It took Diesel about 5 days to really get over the GA- it knocked him for six!

Poor fella.
Big hugs to you all and thanks for the update. I have just come in from work and the first thing I did was log on to see how Oscar got on.
I think he has quite a fanbase on the website now. Lets hope the pain management and physio will help him feel better.
Please keep us updated on his progress.
Big hugs Diesel and Jacqui x
