I'm not afraid of the dentist

Post by Marian on Thu Apr 24, 2008 12:53 pm

Shoei has been to the dentist and he has given him a new crown for his canine. It's the second one already, but the vet is surprised that it lasts so long (about 4 years). So Shoei can definitely say "I'm not afraid of the dentist" Big grin . When he was 1 year old this tooth broke down because he thought he could chew on iron tongue . Are there more staffies on the forum who have been to the vet/dentist?

Shoei looks great youd never know, im also surprised his crown has lasted so long with all the staffy chewing, mine have never broke theirs, but i have heard of it before.

Thanks Smile . Our vet did a great job on it. When it happened we could choose to take out the tooth or put a crown on it. We choose the crown. He appreciated it so much that he didn't charge full price (think he knew we would come again for another one in a few years tongue - and most of all he adores staffies). Nowadays vets can do it themselves. About 15 years ago my husband's dog needed a root treatment (don't know if this is the right word) and this was done by our vet and a human dentist and we could stay and look. That was awesome Smile .

Hi Zeebo, think we are lucky than that the crown is lasting so long (although Shoei chews on everything). Did the vet had another solution for Rosco's tooth or was the only option to remove it?

He took the root down some how and left Rosco with 3 1/4 of his tooth intact, thats how it stayed till he passed away, never ever gave him any trouble either Smile

Okay, good to know if the dentist runs out of crowns laughing (I'm just kidding). In Shoei's case there's not so much tooth left, so I think that's not an option for him, but we keep it in mind.
