Concerned..

Post by Mattchewone on Mon 02 Nov 2009, 21:23

.. About Patch, he had his worming tablets (1.5 of them as instructed by the vets) at around 4:45pm ish and had his dinner about 5 minutes afterwards. I then gave him a small rawhide bone about 15-20 minutes after that as i needed to do something and he spends ages chewing these.

About 10 minutes ago he was sick! This is the third time he has been sick not today but in general, all after having a tablet of some sort, last time was anti biotics this time worming tablet.

Could he just not be able to take tablets? I assume he will need to be re-wormed? What shall i do?

Matt

dont worry max used to always throw up after being wormed!
only thing is if it was tablet form , he might have thrown them up , which means you have to do the worming process again !

Will have to get in contact with them today. Could have been the small amount of butter i placed on the tablet to help him swallow it?

Is it normal for a dog to throw up after taking tablets?

I think some dogs have more sensitive stomaches than others, best bet would be to give the vets a ring, they may suggest a different type of wormer if they think it is due to the pills.

The OH phoned the vets, the lady said it sounds like a bacteria problem and that we should hold on to some poo samples to send off and he is going in tomorrow to be checked out.

Im a little worried as it just seems from the last few experience with the vet that what they offer doesnt really help and just costs us a shed load of money.

He is having on and off loose tummys and is going farely regularly, more than usual. He seems fine when eating and in general.

Get him checked out - just incase.

I worm my dogs on an empty stomach. Just wrap the worming tabs in some cheese or cold meat and give it to them, usually during the day. I've never had a problem.

Can I also add that rawhide makes some dogs very sick and possibly have loose poo. My Westie cannot eat rawhide at all without being VERY unwell, try cutting those out for a while too.
