Raw Meat Diet
Hey guys
Hope someone can help me out...
I want to start Tyson on a raw meat diet as ive heard that thats the best thing you can feed them.
The thing im not sure of is how much (portion size) to give him because we feed him twice a day??
I was going to go get some chicken necks/mince and things like that to feed him and i was planning on mixing it up (in a food processor) for him
Does anyone else do this??
Thanks

Hey Stich,
Thanks for the response!
How much meat (weight) is in a packet and a half? And does that vary depending on the weight of the dog?
So you feed them raw meat in the morning and a small portion of dry food at night, is that correct?
Sorry about all the questions...i just dont want to over/under feed him

Re: Raw Meat Diet
Hi, I use these frozen packs, they are great. The plan is to feed my dogs on the RMB (raw meaty bone) diet so I will gradually replace the mince with bigger, tougher bones as they grow. At the minute, my 12 week old Shepherd has no trouble with chicken, she loves it and the skin cleans and flosses her teeth. I only use the mince for pups. They do have a guide of how much to feed on pack

Re: Raw Meat Diet
hi
with the chicken necks & wings also turkey necks if you can get, dont mince them just give them to your dog,my pup was 8 weeks old when she had her first wing, she crunched straight thru it.
I dont know if I can name the brand that do the frozen packs, they come in all sorts of meats,I lightly cook mine with some cubed up veggies(root veggies) also chuck in some brown rice or pasta .I also feed her raw tripe get the unbleached stuff & dont cook it,not only does it stink but its better for them raw, eventually my pup will be eating only raw, sometimes I bind her food together with some raw egg.I give her raw carrots to crunch on(great for teething)google " raw meaty bone diet" you will get so much info your mind will boogle!
my pup is 14 weeks she is still on 3 meals a day,I just judge it out,the rule is if your pup looks fat feed a bit less if your pup looks thin feed more, also if you can feel his ribs but not see them then your getting it right.good luck it really is the best for your dog, even though my vet said put her on complete dry crap 3 times a day,oh how boring for her plus I dont know whats in dry food or tin stuff, dont feed myself or my sons on processed junk so wont feed my pup on it either.
good luck.

Thanks for all your help, the advice has been really helpful
Ive been feeding Tyson raw chicken necks and chicken frames lately, and he's loving it!! I do mix it up a little tho and feed him a high quality dry food as well.
Garratt, i dont think we have any frozen packs for dogs here in Australia, but i will have a look on the net for it, thanks

Re: Raw Meat Diet
Hi,
I cook all of Roxy's food for her. I obtained the recipes from a Stafford Breeder here in Australia.Basically they are a variety of cooked mince (all human grade, no additives)chicken necks, or minced chicken frames, rice or pasta, LSA, kelp, sunflower oil, mixed veggie, bran......
Ester if you can get to a Leonards Chicken shop, they sell frozen minced up chicken frames for about $1.50 kilo. I will be happy to email you a recipe or too if your interested! Roxy licks the bowl clean every time!! As she is older, she has been having trouble digesting the necks, so now i just get the minced frames.
my email if your keen for some recipes!
Good luck

Re: Raw Meat Diet
Ive been feeding him chicken frames the past couple of days and he's been vomiting a few hours later. Not sure if it has anything to do with what im feeding him...im taking him to the vet tonight cause he hasnt been feeling well the past few days anyway, so i might check with the vet if it could be the chicken frames. Ive been told not to give dogs cooked chicken (bones that is) is that true?
Some recipes would be fantastic...thanks!!
No hurry just whenever you get a chance, that would be much appreciated!

Yep, never give them cooked bones of any sort. When I cook up Roxy's food with the minced frames, its minced so finely that she is ok with them..... of if your worried, just give Tyson the minced frames raw....Will email you some recipes, good luck!

Re: Raw Meat Diet
Done this ten years ago,by the time i cooked everything and added the ,Vitamin D3 , Vitamin E 150 , Calcium , Phosphorous P and the rest
I was better off buying a good dry dog food which is the same but already done for you. They i had a Adverse food reactions
Adverse food reactions cannot be ignored as they can cause a variety of challenges to your dog’s health and well-being ranging from skin and gastric disorders to behavioural problems .

Re: Raw Meat Diet
I dont cook anything or add stuff. Mine have raw meaty bones, offal, sometimes pureed veg and some table scraps. I dont add any vitamins or worry about their nutrition. If they are a good weight and healthy then I'm happy. I measure according to what they look like, eg looking slightly thinner, increase food. I find it easy enough this way and they are healthy and enjoy mealtimes.

Re: Raw Meat Diet
Hi, I'm a new member with a new pup and I've been feeding raw chicken carcasses, raw lamb and venison. My pup will only eat dried food as an absolute last result. I find this quite handy as I know when she's hungry. She is the first pup I've had that's not a glutton.

Re: Raw Meat Diet
Hi Molly and Buffy, Thanks so much for info on feeding raw food. I have a 12 week old pup and really want to feed her mostly raw and dry so find all this info really helpful. To any Aussies out there, what dry food do you think is best over here for a pup?
