Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
I'm interested why people here chose staffy for they dog. They're sooo lovely and gorgeous
, of course, but in detail, what fascinates you in staffy?

I chose a staffie because they look gorgeous, they are loyal, loving and comical and for their total affinity with children.

I was brought up with them around me, my Grandad was a breeder so there has never been another contender. I've had them all my life.

I have been round dogs all my life, but when I moved out of home and brought my own place, the flat seemed really empty without a dog.
I have always loved staffords and ideal size, like lots of exercise, loving and loyal...
Went to the Dogs Trust and fell in love with Rocco...
Soon got involved in fostering and that's how I came about getting my 2nd...

Totally by accident when a friend of a friends bitch became pregnant, and then after birth wouldn't feed the pups, we all stepped in to hand rear them, and I ended up with my Lola

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
I always wanted a Staffy since I was a young teenager, my friend's dad had one...... We were not allowed pets where we lived.
So I just used to read my Staffy book and dream of the day I could get one.
As soon as I got my own place, I decided to get one, a friend of a friend was a breeder.
I wouldn't have any other dog.

Approx 15 years ago I went to the dogs home with my OH and sat shivering in a corner was a bag of bones with a big head and we fell in love instantly. She was so underweight when we got her that she could not have her innoculations until she had put weight one.
She was the first staffie we had ever owned and were smitten and we are now on our 4th staffie and would never have anything else

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
Hi
We went on our 1st holiday 16 years ago and met a Red - a red stafford who ruled the pub - Red would wander around and at last orders would bark and run around to tell you to go -
However - my boyfriend was sat chatting and Red just jumped up on his knee and stayed there the whole time - Paul has never owned a dog - but he said from that day a Stafford was for him
So when the time was right we decided it was time to add a Stafford into our lives - never been happier - since Diesel we have added Rocco to our family -
Still want more
Great topic to post

I think they are the finest, friendliest, cuddle monsters in the world.
There are so many good dog breeds in the world, but a Staffy IMO is head and shoulders above all the rest.
Where else could you get so much personality in such a small package?
Bronx is my second, and I cant imagine ever being without one.

I've had Staffies now for 22 years and wouldn't have any other dog. I've been really lucky in that they were all healthy and died of old age. They are the most loyal, loving, dogs, full of character and life and I love them to bits. Can't walk past one without stroking his/her head. My life would not be the same without one.

I just happened to find Tyson while shopping for my sister's b'day pressy. I was just looking at the pups & wasn't going to buy one but Tyson touched my heart (+ he looked like my Jessie as a pup) but really, he picked me not the other way around.

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
I didnt choose her - I put an ad on Guntree saying outdoorsy family seek medium to large dog any breed. I was offered 3 staffis in the end but Ruby happened to be first.
I still miss a long coated dog (previous dog was a borer colllie) Somehow the short coat doesnt seem as cuddly but she is such a sweetheart, glued to my side, enthusiastic, loving, playful, friendly, with her lickle ooochy cooochy face - OK OK Im convinced, Staffis are gorgeous after all!

Several people I know have staffies and after meeting them and seeing how lovely they are, I decided my next dog would be a staffie. Alfie joined our family when he was just six weeks old and is now five months. He is easily one of the best dogs I have had...full of character and fun. He provides us with endless comic moments, is sweet natured, clever and, if that isn't enough, is an indescribably gorgeous looking young dog! We ADORE
him and I could never imagine life now without a stafford!

Quite a long time I had been thinking about getting a dog. I knew I wanted one that
Wonderful dogs
- has a short coat
- is medium sized
- isn't over bred; still looks like a dog and hasn't too many hereditary diseases
- is friendly but has a strong personality
- is active and likes to excercise.
Wonderful dogs

Jassu has stated it well...
But on top of that The staffie is a untapped breed here in that state...well atleast in the north east.... making it perfect to work with and educate the people.

my story! lol
As a teen (and dog ignorant i must admit) I got a job a vet practice where the vet owned a staffie.
I had no idea of the breed, he jumped up on me to welcome me and i froze on the spot i shouted OMG GET THIS PIT BULL OFF OF ME! The whole practice collapsed laughing, it was then i was told he was a Staffie bull.
After that me and the dog became firm friends, he followed me about the practice, and if i went on errands he came too
I was then i decided when i get my own house i will get a staffie , and i did.
Many years later i got my 1st flat, and before it was even furnished i got my 1st rescue staffie, Sheba, then my puppy Laura, Sheba was Very protective of me and disliked kids (poor dog had a terrible life before she came to me) so many years later when i became pregnant and after a heartbreaking decision i had to hand Sheba back to the rescue
As time progressed and after lots of research we found a perfect stud for Laura and she produced a lovely litter of pups. Unfortunately when the pups were a week old Laura contracted E coli and passed away a week later so hubby and I hand reared the puppies and it was a success, we kept 2, Leah and Billy. Poor Billy aged 2 was killed, there must have been a bitch in season as he jumped the fence(never did this before) and was run over on the road where the kind driver didnt even stop! but 13 years on we still have our lovely Leah, so you can imagine she is a special old lady to us who shows no signs of slowing down, her breath honks a bit, and shes a bit grey about the muzzle but other than that you wouldnt know shes 13, she forgets shes a 3 stone staffie and thinks shes a lap dog, follows me every where even to the loo but i wouldnt change her for the world as to me staffies are the best breed i have had the privilege to have been owned by
Thats my essay lol ty for reading x

We wanted to rescue a dog and our centre said it would have to be under 12 weeks old as we had a 2 year old daughter. They said they had an 11 week old staffie if we wanted her. That was it, went home, researched the breed, fell in love with them, next day Lulu was home

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
hi,First i would have to say i have never been a big dog lover,My parents had a sharpei but that was after i moved out of home.So i would only see her once a week.So have never been interested in having a dog.Thou my partner and kids have always wanted one,
Well my partner works in a pizza shop and the people who own it moved down south leaving there 21 yr old and 16 yr old lads upstairs in the flat. The older lad got a girl friend and was never about. so the young one got a staffie, well after 2 weeks my OH came home & said to me, i am going to HAVE to bring this dog home, they dont play or walk the dog.The dog is looking more and more depressed every time i go in to work.So we went to pick chico who was 1 yr old up. We took him straight to the vet. Got him checked over. wormed & got the identi chip number. Well the kids loved him.He walked on the lead with the girls brilliant, he played. All was well. till 3 days after we got him. The kids walked him up the rd to the pet shop for a toy and were followed home by a young lad. who knocked at the door and told me i had his brothers dog & that while his brother was on hols ,the dog had got out or had been pinched & they had been looking for him for 3 weeks. So he showed me some pics on his phone & they did look the same, i explained i would not hand him over on a photo (especially as the dog never went near him) but that i did have the identi chip number. so he left & was back 15 min later with his brother,Well this time when i opened the door, the dog was so excited, so i checked the identi chip number & it was his dog. The lad was nearly crying to have his dog back, My girls were sobbing there hearts out because the dog was leaving. So i told the girls,if they read up on staffies,We would get a pup.( thou by this point. even if they didnt read up,i really wanted another dog.) And a while later. we now have kai & all ready i cant believe i didnt get a dog earlier.
Sorry that was so long..

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
Have to admit a staff is a breed I'd never even thought about before. I like 'em big and cuddly, shepherd, labs, rotties... etc. I'd been pestering GF for about 10 years that we needed a dog around the place but she wasn't convinced. Never had a dog before and wasn't too sure around the large breeds (she's only ickle) I'd never have gone for a toy breed so I figured we was at an empasse.
Then one day she comes home after seeing a bunch of puppies and informs me we were getting a dog (not open to debate)
"what kind?" I asked.
"Staffy" she tells me.
My face actually dropped. Srsly - I was thinking small, don't want to be seen walking one but then I actually thought about the few staffies I'd met in my life and they were really fun little dogs and with a cracking little attitude. "What the hell" I thought, it's not like I have any say in the matter and it's a dog after all. Could be worse - could be a miniature poodle.
5 months later and I'm a total convert - I love this dog and I love his little breed characteristics. First terrier I've owned and I gotta say - I don't think it'll be my last.

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
i had a 'irish' staffie i rehomed from a freind of a freind when she was 6 months old bless her she had been caged from 9-5 everyday as her dad kept attacking her relationship broke down and i gave up 'custody'.. few years later met my hubby he had a female english bull staffy cross chloe she was the kindest loyal loving dog ever so good with my daughter and the new baby i had just had with my hubby, unfourtunatley a few weeks before we were due to bring her to our new home a we got a distressed phone call from our m-i-l a thunder storm had completely freaked her out from her injuries the vet said it looked like she had literally tried to claw and bite her way out of the house and our mother in law had told us that the vet suid putting her to sleep was in her best interest because of the severity of her injuries...hardest day of our lives
2007 we adopted a jrt pup busta and thought that would be it sadly in january 2009 i lost my son at five months preganant and in july 2009 i sadly lost my daughter at the same gestation...we decieded that our hearts could take no more trying to have a healthy child so agreed that we would at some point get another dog, every dog we saw was out of our budget so we kind of gave up then one evening after scouring 29 pages of dogs we found buddy 10 weeks old had been brought by a lady whose partner turned out to be severly allergic.. we went to see him not sure if we had been scammed i mean how many people sell a staff pup like buddy for £70 ?? when we walked in his beautiful green eyes looked at me and he gave me a big lick i truely beleive that my babies sent him to me and he has helped me so much in our greiving process... sorry if a bit long but there was no real reason we picked a stafford he picked us..

They are just lovely dogs, a few friends have had them! They are friendly lovable and just so much fun to play with. As i cant play rough with the missus lol i thought get a strong dog to play tug 'o' war with etc (obviously when he is older)
Someone to walk with and have fun with!

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
I didn't actually want a Staffy...I wanted a collie, hubby wanted a staffy, both based on good natured dogs we had known. So we ended up with a staffy collie cross from a rescue.
Bailey, although totally loved by us both turned out more collie so I agreed Staffy next time.. although I still wasn't sure...well...couldn't believe how great Phoebe turned out..she was so gentle and loving in her nature, great with other pets, mothered all our kittens. I expected her to be much harder than she was. She became the light of our family.
Phoebe died this year at the age of 6 1/2 after a brave and sad battle with a Mast Cell cancer. Whole family fell to bits, Hubby was actually physically ill. Made a mad decision after seeing a staffy pup in a rescue and before they knew what had hit them in came Maizie aged 11 weeks. Well that was where I learnt that no dog is irreplaceable but..there is something about the Staffy that is different..Maizie is so like Phoebe in her ways it made me realise it was in the breeds nature and not just in our dogs.
Funny thing was Maizise's name at the rescue was AZA I looked this up recently and it means " healer" . That's what she was to our family when she first arrived.
Recently decided Maizie needed something more in her life, Bailey is a bit too old for her and has some joint problems so there was no doubt it had to be another Staffy and in came Amy aged 8 weeks. They are the best of friends and we feel that we have given Maizie that special friend to grow up with.
If I could manage more I would!!
...sorry about waffling on a bit ..

To look hard and chavvy as possible?
I love GSD's and wanted one of those. Our house is now too small for a larger dog and I wanted a mid sized dog, easy to groom, friendly but not 'poofy', strong and handsome.
Harley's got that lot in spades. Seriously, when we're walking and I see someone else with a dog it doesn't even occur to me unless they're a Staff. I must be a right bigot!

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
We ended up with a staffy by accident.
TBH I had never been keen on them mainly because of their media based view of them, etc.
However, going back to before Sookie a friend of mine with a staffy got into trouble with the police and with various things going on I ended up taking the dog home to stop it being taken by the police and put into kennels.
The dog was lovely and the total opposite of what I thought a staffy was, very affectionate, clever, playful, etc (the list goes on).
We looked after the dog for a couple of weeks until things cooled down and were sad to give it back.
Which a few months later led to Sookie who has been all of the above and more.

Re: Why did you choose particularly staffie for your dog?
To begin with it was my husband who wanted to get a Staffy but I protested due to the media coverage at the time (quite wrongly) I ended up getting a a Labradinger that tore my house apart and was far to bolshy with the kids. He was a nightmare to train and none of us bonded with him so we rehomed him with a family member.
After a year of research in to what dog would be best and encountering some lovely Staffys on walks we decided that a staffy would be ideal.
We wanted a puppy but got inroduced to Milo who was fostered after his owner died and we all fell in love. We have had him since August and he has fitted in perfectly and we have all bonded together. He is now in his forever home!
