Re: How often do you take your dog on walks?
TJ gets two walks everyday Rain, sleet or snow..
Sometimes he gets three...
My wife walks him around the local woods..
And I take his ball in the fields and run him...
The journey around the woods takes about one hour
and the workout in the field can take between 30 and 45 minutes..
He will let you know when he as had enough..
On the rare occasion we get a sunny day..
I just walk him on the lead...

They get about 3-4 hours spred over 2-3 walks. Plus shorter walk in the evening just before bed.

Having a big garden is no excuse for not walking your dog...walking your dog is a bonding exercise for you both and not to mention the socialisation side of it!
I enjoy my walks just as much as the dogs do! I couldn't imagine not walking them.

Re: How often do you take your dog on walks?
I only walk mine once a day in a morning and they have some time on lead and some time off I swap between walking all 3 together and taking them one at a time so that they all get some one on one and all get to be a pack. I also go a different way if they are all going we go and have a mad hour across chasewater if individually they go on "road walks" one to keep their claws down and also to do different training that each dog needs.

Re: How often do you take your dog on walks?
Maybe not my next door neighbours both sides have JRT's one one side two the other. The one with one never walks him because he is dog aggressive (and people aggressive) and he can't control him and yes I have tried explaining that walking would burn off energy and the lady who has 2 used to take them out when they were pups (independently one is 5 one is same age as Lola) she used to dress them in outfits and carry them on the bus for people to go ahhhhh she tried to walk them once and they literally nearly killed each other I ended up running doen the line because I could hear them and seperating them for her. Her daughter who lives somewhere else also has 2 dogs and they also never get walked just bought once a month on the bus to visit her mum.....

20-30 mins in the morning then 30+ in the evening and in the garden at lunch for 10/15 mins. Tend to go for longer walks/different walks on the weekend. Isla has only just started going out so we are trying to take it easy.

He's only just past his 2nd inoculations so we're on 3 short 5 min walks a day.
Once he's more used to it, we'll stick to the 5 mins per month rule, but a more lengthy walk in the evenings.
Weekends however will be adventure time in the woods, park, pool!

Re: How often do you take your dog on walks?
As WIB said, both our dogs get two walks a day, 30 minutes in the morning, sometimes 40 if I'm not running late and the weather is nice :-)
Then 30 minutes - 1 hour in the evening depending on how stiff our older dog is feeling and the weather!
Isla gets let out in the garden during lunchtime for a play (one of us comes home from work) and normally a few times in the evening. I'm hoping as the weather improves, and she gets older that I'll be able to take Isla out with me running in the evening, which will give her more exercise. (Although I've only just read about the 5 minute rule, so I may have to wait a few more months yet!)

Charlie only goes out once a day now for a walk. Some days if its nice out we may do 2 short walks but she is finding it harder each day to manage
I really miss the long walks in the forest! Bob still goes out twice when he is here. I love walking the dogs x

Hi Maxibon, if it makes you feel any better, we aren't walking Isla much further than you are, I do get the impression thought that as she grows it will be longer and longer walks for Isla!

Some one said on here a little while ago that you should walk your dog 5 minutes per month of life!
So Max being 5 months old, going by this he should be walked 25minutes a day.

Re: How often do you take your dog on walks?
I was told you have to watch not to over do the walks because as they are still growing it can put strain on their little developing bodies eg: their hips and joints.
Years ago we had a Rotty and we were told by the vets not to walk him too much until he had finished growing because it can cause hip and joint problems.
I think it may be because it's repetative moment, so maybe walk him and have a good play in the back yard with him.

Not allowed off lead yet as we've only had him a few days

I walk mine 3 to 4 times a day.
30 mins - 40 mins in the am
short 15 min walk at lunchtime
1 hour to 2 hours in the evening (If i am cycling then i'll only do an hour or so as its more demanding for them to run bedside the bike)
short 15 min walk in the evening before bed time
Much more if on a weekend or if i am on a day off from work
All of them are off lead 90 % of the time and i always walk them together as i am a soft touch and hate leaving any of them behind. Although saying that they all go to individual agility training for an hour once a week and i have no choice but to leave two behind
