All ours are insured. We spend over £120 per month on insurance for them, but it is well worth it.

"I spent over 4K on Bruce"
I still have the vets bills....

And he was Insured.... dont want to see

Its just that we had a malignant ciste
removed from his tail...
Then about 6/7 years later we changed Insurance companys
and then Bruce was taken ill again wth stomach cancer..
They would not pay up..
As we had not informed them of the Ciste...
After a lot of stress and a million phone calls, letters, etc..
I was going to take them to court...
Two days before the case hearing I was offered 4k
I refused it and then said "I will see you in court" Big grin

The next day they offered 5k ...So I snapped there
hand off

We lost our first Stafford - Brodie - when he was just over 1 year old. He was born with an AV fistual which is a very uncommon ailment for a Stafford. In fact the Specialist said in all his 25 years he has never seen it in a bull breed... just our luck.

He had 2 major operations which he came through both of brilliantly but it did not cure his problem and it didn't look like it was going to be possible to cure.

The AV Fistula occured in his liver and basically meant that his liver was being completly bypassed. The artery going into the liver should branch out into a series of small veins which deliver the blood to the liver for the removal of toxins. In Brodies case the artery went straight through the liver and joined up with another artery on the other side. This meant that all of the toxins were just going round and round in his body building up to massive levels causing fits and disorientation.

The operations tried to tie off the artery inside the liver and redirect the blood into the capilleries of the liver, but it wasn't successful and 3 months after the final operation we decided to ease his suffering and put him to sleep as his levels were again off the chart.

It was the worst day of my life.

He was a brave old sole in a young body and never wimpered or moaned about his illness.

All in all it cost us about £11,000 we did have insurance and they did cover the majority of it but if there was chance for him i would have given up everything.

Rest in peace my wonderful boy.
