Reuben will be starting a class on the 16th June. He knows the basic, sit, stay, heel etc but I need help on recall and allowing him off the lead.
It will also be a great opportunity for him to interact with a lot of other dogs, he is very friendly now and I want to keep him that way

i did 2 courses of puppy classes and then 1 lesson of obedience , but to be honest it was full of pedigree snobs "are you sure he is a staffy rubbish" then it was doing this thing called a english finish and a german finish , well i am sorry my staffy is not a poodle and i was not interested in doing show moves , i felt more like at line dancing class than a dog class so now i have decided to do it on my own as we have the basics

My guys have all been to a class at one time or another.

Dyaln did a 12 week course as a pup

Charlie only went to a class when i first started to do agility but I stopped as she really did not enjoy them

Indi went to a few again prior to starting agility but stopped as soon as he had got the basics.

Molly has gone to a weekly training/social class since she was 14 weeks old and we both love it!! We also go to regular social dog walks, about twice a month, and she gets the chance to mix with a great variety of other dogs and they all get to run wild for an hour or so!! We've also recently started obedience one to one classes as I intend to show her.
Jack is on his sencond block of puppy classes and I intend to do the same with him - it's a great laugh, my trainer is fab!!

i got Marlon at 10 months old he never went anywhere and was tied to there washing line in the back garden 24/7 , i took him on, we did do 1 on 1 agility for about 6 months and we did extra training bits as we went,

shadow i had from a pup, and looking back yes i should have taken her to puppy classes, but im lucky she a is a very laid back girlie and does what shes told , she will sit and wait for me to go through gates etc when i give her the command, shes a very sweet girl and willing to please

Re: Have you ever taken your dog to an obedience class?

Post by Ash and Ann on Sun 25 Oct 2009, 15:23

Ash takes Millie to puppy class once a week she's on to her 2nd course now and then will start on the KC bronze, silver and gold courses. They both really enjoy the classes the trainer is fab and it's lovely to see Millie socialising well with the other dogs. Ash also fancies trying Millie in the agility classes but I think the dogs have to be at least a year old before they can start these. Millie is Ash's first dog and although we have always had dogs since Ash was a child this one is the first she has been totally responsible for and the classes deal with good practice as an owner as well as basic puppy skills.
