Sorry Steve, I'm only able to click on one choice, but we have had litters with between 2 and 5 pups. I'll let you know when our next litter is born, due 9 March (same day as Crufts!!!!) so guess who may not be going to Crufts this year?

I always make sure that the people who have one of my pups sign a contract that if they no longer want to keep the pup it can only come back to me,i will help to find a new home,if they can not be housed at mine, never would they go to a rescue home,i have bred the dogs so i am responsible for them all their lives.

As you cannot show Rescue dogs, there's no alternative other than to breed, if you want to keep on showing.

I have just mated my bitch, mainly as I need another bitch to carry on in the showring. I will be keeping one from the litter and have a waiting list for any other pups she may have.

Yea that is a good way of doing it, a lot of ppl just use their dogs as breeding machines and are just interested in the money and would never take the dogs back. They should bring in strict laws to get rid of these irresponsible breeders imo.

does that not then allow pedlars to carry on breeding sub standard ans un tested litters while the decent breeders stop and then the peddlars expect everyone else to pick up their pups that end up in rescue as they cant sell em........................... ALL should think about the numbers they breed and their reasons

I always look for the one that is as close as possible to the standard, which is what all show dogs are judged against. The same pup should also show signs of having a very good temperament, which will be needed when joining all our other dogs. Whilst we breed black/brindle dogs, I am not in any way colour biased. In our last litter there was a beautiful tiger brindle dog which I would have loved to have kept, but already having 2 adult males, I couldn't take the chance, and I wouldn't want to keep them all penned up away from each other. He went to a very loving home and has turned out exceptionally well. Just a shame his owners are not interested in showing.

We had a litter born 8 March. One dog and 3 bitches, one of which we will be keeping. The dog and the other 2 bitches have homes ready and waiting for them as soon as they are ready to leave their mum.

my red bitch put to a red pi, had a litter of 11! thought they were never going to stop coming.....lol
And she totally disowned them all, think it was all too daunting for her, so hand reared and needless to say i was a zombie for first 3 weeks. unfortunately lost two little girls after much perserverance, so buckets of tears too!
put proud of fact i raised 9 heathy chunky babies that found loving pet/show homes around the uk.
5 years later now just dared consider having another litter, not from that bitch i hasten to add...lol
so hopefully in 4 weeks i'll have a much more managable number with a mother that actually wants them. but got steriliser and bottles on hand just in case...lol
