do you worry about dangerous dog allegations?

Post by stick on Fri 10 Jul 2009, 22:44

First topic message reminder :

it is stuff like the raids recenty that makes me consider whether to get a staffy later in the year as i am planning to.

as i am young and am a rough and ready working class sort. i also drive a modified 1980's bmw, which most people would take me to be a chav until they speak to me and find im a well mannered, knowledgeable young man having studied law and history at uni.

especially when i was recently living in liverpool, i feel if i was walking around with a proper staff as well as my little cross, i would just be seen as another chav with a pit. as literally 95% of the dogs i saw in liverpool were pits. i did see he odd staff here and there, and i saw no more than a handful of small lapdog breeds.

it would be so easy for people to point a finger at me and say chav with a dangerous dog. and then through no fault of mine or my dog, i would have a dead dog sad i couldnt bear this.

do any of you worry about stuff like this??

When you buy your staff later this year I assume you will be looking for a health tested, KC registered pup (or possibly a rescue) in either case papers will be provided to prove what dog you have (staffy). From the way you type, and the comments you make you obviously are thoughtful and intelligent so I believe you will socialise your dog, and then train it which in turn means a well behaved dog that no one can make any complaints about.

In short even if the pup you buy turns out to be over breed standard like mine, as long as they are well behaved you will be fine.

I just wanted to ask a question about this... My boyfriend who is Italian bought Valentino without me knowing. And being fairly new to UK rules and regulations (and also fairly lazy and stupid aswell!) he didn't think there were such things as paperwork, kc registered etc...

So our Valentino doesn't have any paperwork nor is he kc registered. I'm trying to get back in contact with the lady he was from but I doubt she will know since her son had bought the pup without her consent and that was why she was selling him....

I just wanted to know clearly is there going to be a big disadvantage or risk that I should be prepared for in not having these things?

.... sad

Have you a pic of Valentino? Great name by the way.

You could always ask a vet to put your mind at rest.
Remember not all Staffies are KC reg.

Ok this has been taken slightly out of context as the point originally was don't go to a BYB, however, I have to stress that I now have 4 dogs, 3 staffs and only one of them has papers. The point I was trying to make is that a well behaved well manerred dog is worth a million pieces of paper as no one will look twice if they are not playing up.

I'm not worried for Sami because luckily we don't have BSL in Finland but situation in other countries is at the very least unfortunate. All kinds of fads come to our distant country somewhat late, and I really hope our decision-makers have enough common sense so that BSL won't be one of them.

I am worried about the "dangerous dog" phenomenon elsewhere. Not only for the dogs and dog owners but also the hole human race. Seriously, how can we be so fu***ng stupid?
