Do you clip your dogs claws?
Do you clip your dogs claws?
Just curious as to how many of you have to clip, or have to get your dogs claws clipped.
I have to do Rocco's as no matter how much he is walked etc, he just does not wear them down. I have tried walking him on concrete, gravel etc for a couple of hours each day and still nothing!!! Think he must be flat footed!
I have to clip Dixie's dew claw every 4 months or so, just to keep them getting too sharp. But the rest of her claws wear down as she walks.

Re: Do you clip your dogs claws?
Reubens have worn down almost to the quick from charging around in the tennis courts so will have to try and keep him to grass for the time being. Chloe's could do with being done but I cannot do them as she screams the place down and they are chocolate brown so I cannot see the quick

I voted yes, but I also only have to cut the dew claws the others wear down by themselves.

I voted yes but only the front ones on both mine. They always wear the back ones down but never the front ones.

Re: Do you clip your dogs claws?
Pretty much the same as Tracey - but the front ones grow so quickly, and sharply!
I have to clip them about once a month and when I do I file them so they are relatively smooth and round but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. After a week or so they are sharp again.

Re: Do you clip your dogs claws?
I tip them. Other than that they stay fairly short from walks. Their front ones dont' get filed like i'd like tho. Those and the dew claws are the only ones i touch up ever 2 weeks.

Re: Do you clip your dogs claws?
Cassie wears hers right down but now Sally is old and not very well she doesn't walk far and her claws grew quite long. I tried to clip them once but I hurt her and so I never tried again after that, I just let the vet do it.

Re: Do you clip your dogs claws?
Because Leah is gettin on in years and my other 2 dogs are ones that can have hip problems mine get walked on grassy areas so their claws do get long, they all HATE me touching their feet. Apparently there is a new thing that files the dogs nails rather than cutting them, that way no more accidents of cutting the qwik in dark nailed dogs.
If anyone knows where i can get one, let me know please, ty x

I cut mine quite a lot. Not because they need it, but because it looks tidier for the showring and also I can inspect their feet for cuts and wear and tear...lol....

The vet has to do Cairos. She is such a soft baby, but HATES having her feet touched.Last time it was done the vet had to take her round the back as she was getting stressed. Her back ones wear down ok,but her front ones are terrible.

Re: Do you clip your dogs claws?
I clip Jokers claws, since he is kinda young still and cant go for long walks so they get worn down..
But hope nature will fix itself when he gets older and can walk longer.
