Spring pole
A spring pole is a fun way to exercise your dog but only if used correctly. It's easy to set up using a large spring, some strong rope, rope tug toy or piece of denim and somewhere to hang the spring pole. However make sure the dog cannot reach the spring and never leave your dog unattended for any length of time.
The spring pole should be low enough for the dogs back legs to be able to reach the ground at all times. They shouldn't be able to dangle off the floor as they may loose grip and fall injuring themselves. Make sure there's enough room around the spring pole so he doesn't injure himself by banging into something, as they do swing around on it.
The spring pole if used correctly will work the muscles in his jaw, neck, shoulders and back as he tugs and shakes the toy. However it will only work these muscles if the back legs are on the floor at all times. You should always supervise your dog exercising to prevent accidents or over exertion.A Stafford will exercise until exhausted as they are always willing to please so you need to decide when your dog has had enough.
After exercising it is a good idea to rub your dog down, gently massaging him from front to rear and let him cool down first before allowing him to drink.

Re: Spring pole
I love your set up in your garden - ours is like a quadmire at the moment as soon as we are able we are going to something like you have - what size is your fence around the patio area ?
I adore your rotti
Ooops back on topic - your dogs look like they are having a ball

The fence around the Patio
lol,is 4ft & 3ft what you can see,but we have 6ft fencing aswell,we have now got to change that fencing as the bloke died next door so we are getting new neighbours(should be fun) the rotties stick their heads over it,i would go for the 6ft & 4ft,as for your garden is like a dirt pit you want to see the other side of mine

We do have a 6 ft fence around the garden but wanted to do something like you have within that 6ft fence.
Believe you me that is a patio compared to ours lol - ours is horrendous - cant wait for the good weather to come so we can actually get something done with our bog
Thanks huni

Re: Spring pole
well like i said we have the other side to do so i understand what you mean, cant wait also for the nice weather, the picket fencing is 3ft,but think harley has jumped it before,so i would go with the 4ft to be on the safe side

Staffyrock
just try & encourage them to play, make it as a game you play with them, not all dogs like them some prefere boomer balls or the flirt
Alza
Do be careful Kye is still young & has alot of growing to do,if you are making a springpole for one so young, make sure the tugger reaches the floor, dont you play pulling with him let him do it himself, this way he doesnt overdo it,when he reaches the age around 6months,then you can higher it alittle.Let him grow first or you can do damage.
