Re: New Puppy Toilet Training!!!
Hi, most puppies have an urge to 'go' after eating, drinking, playing and sleeping. Usually every 3-4 hrs. With each month it ages its bladder gets larger and stronger. Signs it needs to go,are circling, crying, and sniffing around etc so take it straight outside and praise it when it goes outside, especially after food and on waking. It soon learns. I used to take mine out straight after eating and waking. As with humans, dogs learn at different ages. Hope this helps

hi, and thanks to everyone.
yes, im fine with the needing to go during the day, its just in the nights where he seems to wake up quite abit.
i think i just need to change his sleeping pattern, because he sleeps quite abit during the day. the only problem is that when he sleeps i get a break lool.

I dont think you should wake a sleeping puppy, you should allow them to sleep. Where does he sleep at night? Does he have a cuddly toy to snuggle to? If he sleeps in his cage at night try covering with a blanket, leave a radio on low during the night , a warm hot water bottle with a cover on, can also comfort as they are used to the warm bodies of their mother and litter mates. If all else fails do what i did and let them sleep with you at least you get some sleep!
My girl still only slept 4-5hrs but it was better than nothing. It does get better honest

Re: New Puppy Toilet Training!!!
hi staffsrock, nice staffy u got there by the way lol
he sleeps downstairs in a crate infront of a radiator which you might be able to see in my display pic.i have just started turning the radio on last night, and i have now started sleeping upstairs. i cant hear him from there so have used a baby monitor. it seems he crys when he realises his door is closed and carrys on for a while but then he settles down. he normally goes to sleep at around 9, and wakes up at 3, but this varies from day to day.

Thanks afroman Kanos a nice blue too
a real cutie. Hes from kernewekglas isnt he? The baby alarms a great idea, wish id thought of that lol Its always better to start as you mean to go on, youre doing the right things, 6hrs is good going. When the doors shut he knows he'll be alone for the night, he'll soon get used to it. His crying is because he's alone. rather than go straight down , leave him for a while he may settle back to sleep. Alot of people ignore the crying, it can take a few nights lol If you go to him as soon as he cries he'll keep doing it cause he knows youll come to him. So ignore it, i know its hard
but they soon learn Try this and let me know how it goes

Having the same problem here.
I get up to Hanna when she calls out as its always for the toilet. Sometimes though she will still wet her bed, even if I have taken her out 2-3 times a night. She too is in a crate
with blanket covering, 2 stuffed fluffy toys, a blanket as well, and in the family room with the heater. I dont mind the getting us so much, its the peeing in the bed as well thats not fun!
What is the average age that pups sleep through the night?
Signed....sleepdeprivedmum!

Hi Molly, usually by the age of 4-6 mths the bladder has grown big enough for them to hold during the night . As i said in your other post all dogs are different so some learn sooner rather than later. What a relief when they get there though
lol

Re: New Puppy Toilet Training!!!
When i read al the story`s up here i think we`ve being very lucky .
We`ve got Duke with 8 weeks and he was already housebroken the first two nights i went out 2 times a night and after that 1 time a night .
During the daytime we keep a close look at him and every time he wants to pee we picked him up and went outside with him but for the most time he lets us know by making little crying noises and we went outside with him .
That went on for about 3 months and after that he sleeps the whole night true now duke is almost 10 months and we go for 1 long walk (1,5 hour) and a few short ones .
During the day i have all the time in the world cos i work in a bar and in the evening the lady of the house is in charge
