Re: Horrific Cruelty Case *graphic pic warning*
I have picked her up this morning in Portumna at Tori's and drove her into Galway City to the ARK Vet Clinic to meet Aidan Miller in whose hands her fate now lies. He is a very nice man and has done a good few of similar surgeries although her state will make debriding of the skin necessary. Tori has already re-attached the corners of the mouth as can be seen in the pic of Berni with Aidan. I am to phone him tomorow morning at about 10 o'clock to hear what's going on as she was to have another OP today. As he has not contacted me I presume that everything went according to plan. Whether the skin will re-attach is open to speculation and only time will tell. He will also be able to check whether or not she is spayed. Tori had already checked herfor a MC. Aidan also did bloodtests to make sure there are now other underlying problems which could compromise her recovery. I gave a deposit of 300 Euros and still have no idea how much it is going to cost so I can't clarify that just yet. Her recovery will be slow and she will be needing lots of care and meds. Berni was as brave as can be and even *posed* for the camera... Aidan Miller at ARK with Berni this morning.

seems in the best hands now....

Sarah is on her way home but did update someone to pass the message on, this is what she said.
berni had her op yesterday and although the vet had to strip everything back a lot he has managed to reattach the flap though she has an enormous amount of stiches to both the inside and outside of her mouth. she was in a lot of discomfort last night and required morphine for the pain but is to be released hopefully today she is not out of the woods so keep sending reiki to help the repair 'take' and she will need speciallist care for some time, her other wounds have been cleaned up and attended to whilst she was under and the vet managed to save most of her ear which was also shredded.

Berni is here. I picked her up at 3 pm at the ARK. From what I can see he did a smashing job, she has lots of stitches in her mouth and he managed to get it quite even. The ear (her left) also has been stitched and is quite swollen but so far so good. She didn't travel very well in the car but settled after half an hour. She is to get three different meds and needs to keep the buster collar on for a few days. All depends now on whether or not the stitches hold. I try to keep her out of mischief re her stitches and have her crated, she also need to get a special diet (her blood tests have shown her to be slightly anaemic) for the first few days and is not allowed to eat anything hard. So I got her lots of food at the vets. She also got a new crate and a brandnew donut bed
. They have her age down as 6 years and 6 months although Aidan thinks she is closer to 8 (receptionist put in 6 as I told her at check-in yesterday I estimated her age at 6-8). The stitches are disolveable and I have another appointment at the ARK for next Thursday 2pm for a checkup with Aidan Miller. She has had some of Hill's recovery food (tin) and 1 1/2 tabs (I am not to start the other tabs until tomorrow), she is refusing water. Right now she is conked out in her new bed in her new crate next to the radiator and I have covered the crate. I am boiling the bejaysus out of a chicken as I type this so she will have some nice broth to soften the Hill's dry food I also bought for her. OTT? Maybe but I feel she deserves the best. So fingers xx'd that the stitches will stay in and that she leaves them alone.

Re: Horrific Cruelty Case *graphic pic warning*
As I already wrote yesterday I was worried about her chin and today it looked as if some of the stitching had come loose  on her chin. So I was REALLY worried on the way in, thinking it might be real bad or she might have to be stitched again. As it is very cold and windy Berni wore a black padded coat
and so I called her Sister Bernadette in her black habit which the vet thought was real funny but the vet nurse shot me daggers .
Anyway, Aidan cleaned out the bit which had come lose and to my relief said there was no infection and that it would be the best we can hope for (she has only one front tooth in her lower jaw and there is virtually no tissue to hold the stitches). He can't stitch it again so she will have a produding lower lip once it is healed and the space has filled in. It's not really visible in the pics as she is resting her chin! He gave me another course of antibiotics only to be used at my own discretion. Her ear isn't healed as well as she has had old haematomas (sp?) in them, so I now got drops for them.
She was as good as gold!! Never flinched, growled or tried to draw away!!! Vet was mighty impressed with her and said, dangerous breed indeed! No other dog he knows would suffer than and stay friendly. So she got BIG praise and some vet nurses came in just to see her as she had left a lasting impression the last time she was there!!
She has also gained 3 lbs!!
And she has had her first vacc. I will have her MC'd when the second vacc is due.
She will have to wear the buster collar until next Monday after that I can take it off as long as there is no infection in the hole in her chin.
I shared my sandwich with her on the way home and she took the pieces really nice and easy out of my hand.
The bill this time came to 110 this time.

I have had a real shitty day otherwise, doesn't get much worse but at least Berni is fine so far
