Whats wrong With Oreo Today?
Oreo Has been doing great - No more snarling or lunging or biting. But today he seems to be going back to his old ways. He was eating a filled bone and i took it away to readjust him blanket and then after i took it away he grumbled and went to try and bite my other hand. Then he was running around trying to bite me kind of growling - When I tried to grab him he grumbled and tried to bite me. I went upstairs and when i came down he was pestering the degus and when i tried to stop him he tried to bite me so I put my hand in front of him and he bit it - quite soft but just sat there chewing it. Then I told him NO And he crinkled his muzzle and tried to bite the air then he kind of slinked away then came back so ive put him in his crate as punishment but he just went sleep .
. . . He hasnt been for a walk yet could this have something to do with his behaviour today? Thanks

Re: Whats wrong With Oreo Today?
They all have good & bad days as we do. I would also tell him "NO" loudly if he tries to bite but I wouldn't use his crate for punishment for any reason. It's supposed to be his safe, comfy, snuggly place. Put him in the laundry or outside for punishment for a few mins.
Not having a walk should not be a reason for him being snooty I dont think. If mine ever dared tried to bite me I hold my hand around their snout & firmly say, "NO TEETH!" with a firm look directly at them.

Re: Whats wrong With Oreo Today?
By the way, I make apoint of taking bones, toys, treats, food etc off mine from a young pup. I say, TA, GIVE, & take whatever away from them. I pretend to play, chew or eat whatever it is & follow with a "good puppy" & then give it back. If they are not good about it then they DON'T get it back. All mine know when i take it I also give back so they never get upset as a pup or dog when an item is taken from them.

Re: Whats wrong With Oreo Today?
yeah i deffo agree with tracyp, he's probably just having an off day. if slev is sitting there with his rawhide/pigs ear/kong or whatever, il take it, pretend to have a chew of it and give it back and we've done this since he was a little pup xx

Oh yes Priya was queen of stressing about puppy behaviour, and is now a calm relaxed owner.

Hello
I am sorry to hear your pup was having a bad day - although to be perfectly honest he shouldn't be displaying like this to you -
May I ask you a Q?
The first time you say you took his bone away and he tried to bite your hand - what do you do?

Re: Whats wrong With Oreo Today?
Glad Oreo is back to being himself. We all have off days & a puppy is no diff so.. sometimes we are just not ourselves & have a grumpy day. Consistancy really is the key. Be firm with your rules but gently, gently. He's still a little bub & needs time to learn the rules of the house.

I Told Him No - However I am not sure he was growling because I took his bone it may have just been that he wanted to play - because he was silent as i reached for the bone silent when it was removed from his mouth just made a noise when i put it out of his reach! I Told Him No - He didnt try to bite the hand that took it he just wanted to bite my other one but if i levae my hand there he will mouth it or gently bite but doesnt really apply pressure =S . x

Re: Whats wrong With Oreo Today?
Bailey had the odd grumble but usually only round his food bowl which seems to be improving ,he did growl at us when he was on the sofa but i just grabbed his collar and hiked him off with some sharp words and he hasnt done it since,i think they all test the boundaries sometimes and this sounds like one of those days, we havnt gone out of our way to change his bad points the improvements seem to be happening just as part of normality,if he picks up one of the kids toys we take it off him and tell him no..as this happens most days hes getting used to not bothering with the toys and gives them up freely..just a matter of consistency i guess...
