Potty training going backwards
Hi again everyone
We're struggling a bit with Cool Breeze's potty training.. she was doing really well (only a few accidents in the first 2 weeks) but all of a sudden she's decided she will go anywhere but not outside when it's raining.
This seems to have happened since her introduction to rain on Sunday morning which she hates - she spends all her time trying to hide under my legs/under garden table etc to get shelter. Living in the North West, we kind of really need her to get over the whole rain thing - me standing out there getting drenched with her doesn't seem to be doing the trick
Any ideas? Or does anyone know how long this stage might last?

Yes, rain is an issue. For Barney. He has gotten over it, a little, but he absolutely hates being wet. When coming in even after a light mist he feels he must lick himself dry. I would try an umbrella over her in the rain so she can do her business, or if not, maybe a rain coat would make her feel better.

Re: Potty training going backwards
Millie is still not totally convinced about going outdoors. If I catch her right she will use the garden (although is not keen when raining) she doesnt give any clues when she wants to go si I just make sure she goes out every two hours or so. She doesn't need to go overnight the problem is just through the day. She's 8 months now so I hoped she would be totally house trained by this stage. Some people have said that staffies are notorious for this (I hope not cos I want to re carpet the house but have been holding off until she s got the hang of this ) any tips would be gratefully accepted. Go outside with them, don't leave them, and get the flags out and have a party when they get it right, big praise and a nice treat.

Re: Potty training going backwards
Oh the beloved rain - it must be a stafford hate - mine also hatethe rain even now - as Watts has already said - just take them outside and go with them and stay with them until they go to toilet - then lots of fuss afterwards.
I know this sounds silly but try not to hesiate when taking her out and also try not say ie - oh no its raining as they can pick up on this too
Best of luck -

Re: Potty training going backwards
Thanks everyone
We already go out with her all the time (since we got her 3 weeks ago) and do the treat/praise thing. She just refuses to go whilst it's raining, umbrella doesn't work - Ian thinks she doesn't like the sound as well as the feel!?!
She's even started doing her business in her crate, which concerns me as she doesn't seem to be bothered about lying in it which isn't how I've read it should be. Booked a week off work to try and crack this but earliest they could let me off is 30th Nov which is ages away
Going to buy her a coat this weekend, and she gets to go on her first walkies a week on Saturday so hopefully that will help, reassuring to hear it's not only our staffie that hates rain!
