Fast breathing.

Post by Skylaq on Mon 26 Oct 2009, 19:13

Question!

1.

When Joker sleeps, he breath really fast and loud.. is this normal?
Does staffies have problem breathing some times?

Like sometimes when I pick him up, he sounds like he has trouble breathing, but when I try to put him down cause I'm worried that I'm choking him he doesnt want to go down.

And when we go for walks, oh did I mention Joker is not much of a walker? He doesnt walk very far until he stops and sits down and I have to pick him up, and then the breathing again...

2.

When we go for walks... he LOVES! and I mean loves meeting other people.. He'll go all crazy and pull on his lead until he is on his back two and trying to get to them.
Even if they ignore him, he wants to run after them.... after they walk past he still want to run after them.. and I cant make him come, no matter what I do.. I try to lure him with treats, or a toy.. but nothing..
He doesnt love me he wants to go home with somebody else!!

Sooo... ANY advise would be nice!
Thanks.

AAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH PUPPY STRESS!!!!!

Yes its perfectly normal for him to breathe like that he only has tiny lungs he has to breathe fast.

The people thing is also perfectly normal staffys love people, in fact when someone I knew had a staffy pup and he wouldn't walk I told her to wait til someone walked past and he would try and follow them and would walk. Of course he loves you, you took him to a nice place and you look after him and you have fantastic taste in boots and accessories - whats not to love!!!

arwww... thank you!

You know just the right things to write to make me feel better!
He's on his back "dead" now on the sofa... (was tough and said no doggies on the sofa, and the is daddy went offshore, and on the sofa he is )

Hope we can learn something usefull from the puppy course next week.
I'm just worried that he will grow up and pull on his lead and I wont be able to stop him. Not everybody likes staffies (strange, but true).

Shame poor you!

Puppies have much faster metabolisms than adult dogs as they have to grow all the time - so they breathe faster, hearts beat faster and the poop more.

My Luna still pulls on the lead to meet other people so thats as issue you'll have to learn to deal with LOL!

IF he pulls on his lead when he older then there are techniques to deal with this, he's just a baby exploring the world and everything is exciting, they really are people dogs as Oxide said you'll just have to learn to live with that lol, just keep on as you are and you'll be fine!

Hello

Oh the joys of puppyhood - Smile

Some SBT pups can have what is called a soft pallete (don't worry it's not serious) and this can cause snoring and loud breathing at times - Rocco is just like this but as he is getting older his breathing and snorting has became better.

Sometimes Rocco will sound like he has swolled and its gone down the wrong way and will make a snorting noise like he is struggling to catch his breath and I have to place my hand over his nostrils for a few seconds until he recomposes himself.

It just sounds like a puppy thing as mentioned above xx
