coughing & lost interest in food
hi all...
the last few days i've noticed Gypsy has been kind of coughing a bit. it sort of sounds like he has something in his throat that he's trying to cough up. i've been reading through earlier posts and read some stuff on kennel cough. i haven't noticed any vomiting, but should i be worried? or get him to the vet? it has been quite chilly here at nights, could this be the onset of a puppy-cold??
Also, for about the same time i've noticed he's not that interested in his food either, leaving more than half of it in his bowl at night. he's definitely still interested in our food though. could it be that we should mix his diet up a bit? we've had him on science diet wet and dry food, with chicken necks interspersed throughout.
Sorry if these are really silly questions....i'm new to this and a bit of a new-mum-worrier !
Cheers,

Not at all silly!
Have you had him vaccinated for kennel cough? If you have, I wouldnt be too worried that Gypsy has that but he may have a cold. If you havent had him vaccinated for it then i'd be off to the vets a.s.a.p. & tell the vet that you're worried about kennel cough as they may let you in the back door because any unvaccinated puppies / dogs in the waiting room would also be exposed to it.

Re: coughing & lost interest in food
thank you
he has had all his vaccinations...my partner is the one who deals with all of that though, so i'll check with him. hopefully he has and means just lots more winter cuddles to ward off a dreaded cold !

Re: coughing & lost interest in food
Keep a close eye on him for the next few days. Even if it is just a doggie cold if I'd still be off to the vet if it doesnt get better in the next few days.
Hope he's feeling better soon & give him a hug from Jessie & Tyson.
Let us know how he goes wont you.

Re: coughing & lost interest in food
There are many strains of kennel cough and the vaccine does not cover all as far as I am aware. Personally, I would take him to the vets rather than wait a few days

I would also take him to the vets - rather safe than sorry.

Re: coughing & lost interest in food
he is much much better now. the cough seems to have disappeared over the weekend and he's back to devouring his food as normal. so we didn't think we needed a trip to the vet after all. keeping a close eye on him though, but thankfully seems to be back to his normal self, which is a relief !
