Collar or harness?

Collar or harness?
I really really want Jasper to be good on a lead, my previous staff was a rescue and was 2 yrs old when I got her. She had never been lead trained and would not walk with the lead attached to her collar as she pulled too much. i had to walk her on a harness but she pulled really bad as she did not know any better, tried all the techniques but nothing worked!!!!
What is everyones opinion about whether a collar or a harness is better?

Re: Collar or harness?
i prefer collars as i have more control, though do know of some dogs which walk better in a harness (not may though)
Start as you mean to go on, nice positive walking, dont be too hesitant, any time he starts to pull i give an "ah ah" and stop, wait for him to settle, i may ask them to sit if they dont settle, when they have off we go again. It can take a long time to train them to walk properly on a lead, though starting off young should hold you in good stead. but believe me though it may be hard work, its really worth it

Re: Collar or harness?
Thanks for that. Really would prefer him on a collar so will give it a try. Put his collar on him today which was fine but it was a whole different story when I put the lead on!!!! He did not like it at all, am hoping that it will be better when he can go outside in 2 weeks time!!!

Re: Collar or harness?
Joker is on a collar too, he is ok.. but he likes to pull on it.
I've orederd a harness for him, gonna try that too when it comes.. but I think its easier to control him with a collar.

Re: Collar or harness?
I much prefer harnesses, not cos they pull, but becasue I feel it is more comfortable for them etc

Re: Collar or harness?
i vote harness as i feel more comfortable. our other staffie used to get out of her collar...very scary. I've been lucky that so far (fingers crossed) hes never pulled.
its ur personal choice tho...either is fine, if you wanna use a collar go 4 it
