Worried about Harley

Post by My Bully's Keeper on Mon 02 Nov 2009, 14:23

First topic message reminder :

He's not eating, his tail looks like it's superglued between his legs and he's looking so fed up.

Never seen him this bad before, when he's knocked himself before he's never been like this sad sad sad

It was - and we caught it really early so god knows what I would have been like if we'd left it! I'm sure Harley will be fine, its just now that its vile for all concerned, not knowing what to do for the best for him.

I go through this so often with Luna! It's horrid!! I usually keep her in her bed by me, give her her rymadil then hot and cold compresses on the knee then rub the hip and knee with arnica gel (for horses) it helps a LOT! Also no exercise no matter how badly he wants out!!

What did the vet suggest?

I probably wouldn't, as he has had painkillers it may mask some of the pain and he may do too much and cause more damage - but thats only my opinion - he isn't my dog and you know him best.

Poor Harley he does look uncomfortable.
You know that ALL of us on here know exactly how upsetting it can be when our loyal friends are not feeling 100%.

If it was me- I would defo take him back to the vets for a second look.
Big hugs that he gets better soon and keep us updated

Right, took him out for 15 mins. He was fine, tail up and trotting about. Soon as we're back, tail tucked under and back to his 'ill' self. Poor little guy. sad

Its all relative mate, I don't really care about politics or other worldly affairs unless they directly affect me or people I care about, if one of mine is ill it is a big deal to me and if people don't like it tough sh!t tbh!

MBK, i would take him back or call the vets in the morning, staffies are not soft and rarely show when they are in pain so for him to be so down I suspect he may be in quite a bit of pain.
Chloe is permanently on metacam for her back complaint and arthritis and it has never affected her appetite, I suppose all dogs are different and some will suffer side affects whilst others don't, I personally would not assume it is the metacam causing it.
There is lots of great advice on here but I would give complete rest until he is 100% and get some more advice from the vets

Thanks for all your concern.

He's a bit brighter. Took him out this morning for his baby walk (when he was only 12 weeks awww lol) about 10 minutes.

Came back and he went into ill mode tail right under, I'm wondering if his leg is affecting his tail and it's sore to raise it. Weird.

Got to work and then he wanted to play, running and jumping, calmed his straight down and he's been in bed ever since.

Hard to see any improvement, he just looks so down.

Me again

Just something to think about - when Diesel hurt his lower back his tail also went under too - the poor little pup couldn't even wag his tail - I was really worried.

But with an injection from vets - and a gentle massage plus rest for 5 days he was back to himself in no time

Hope Harley is ok xx

Oh he gets plenty of hugs that's no doubt!

He was very naughty before and I was walking him off leash, he was slowly trotting about then bolted behind this hedge near work he seems to love and that was it, he went mental for 5 minutes, wouldn't come back. So he can't be that bad!

Lol, I know he's a wee bugger but I am to blame, he's always happier sniffing about off leash and I was daft to let him off at that point because he always runs like a nutter there.

It is very difficult to gauge I agree - they appear to be ok - you let them off and they hurt themselves again -

I think they do it on purpose to teach us a lesson - did you say the vet said it was his knee?

When Diesel hurt his back - he kept picking up his hind leg and I assumed it was his leg but the vet said it was his back - What do I know hehe

Probably more than the Vet, she's not the best IMO. She said his knee but he lets me touch it no problems which is a bit weird.

Thats strange isn't it

- if you place you thumbs lightly on his back - near his tuck (hind legs) if you press lightly in this area does he flinch?

This is where Diesel hurt his back x

Be careful though xx

Lol that was him getting his belly tickled Love

Pretty much the same today, tail wagging a bit more but still licking his leg and raising it, taking him on very little walks just to have a sniff and toilet and stuff.

He's currently asleep lol

I tried touching his back Suzie, he was fine about it, no wincing so might be just hopefully the leg..

Poor Harley - seems like your vets was right on this one lol

You are doing the right thing though - keep the walks short on on leash at all times x

Piccie is ace - I want to change mine - but as soon as go for the camera they follow me - DOH!!

Big hugs for Harley - get better soon Harley you're dads worried about you x
