What the hell have i bought....lol

New guy here!!, saw the vid on youtube and though this looked like a smashing site so I just joined up!

Ok, lets see how good you lot are then!! this is my little fella, hes 10 month old, weighs 30kgs, is 20" at the withers, 20" head circumference and a 16in neck, he's pretty solid already and is a really great little puppy. just has a problem with not running off every time he sees another dog!
Never fights, always backs down, just wants to play with everyone and everything.

Only problem is we are unsure what he has in him, some of our friends joke that he looks a lot like an American Pitt, but being that I'm in the UK, I doubt it very much, others say american bulldogge, others claim he is staff mix....

He's a Rescue so no one knows what he is.

As he was from 12 weeks - 10 months so far....

As I said, your help would be great guys/girls, this site seems to be full of all kinds of experience and i dare say there will be features that you lot will notice that we normal people just dont see now we have been living with him for the last 7 months!!!

Hope to be a regular member here, so thanks in advance for any help or advice / thoughts on him and what he is a mix of or if you even think he is something else!?

Hi Steve

First of all I have to say he is gorgeous. At 10 months I would not imagine he would get much taller. I cannot make my mind up on him, he looks staffie but then in the picture with the little girl he resembles a bit of mastiff?

What country are you in by the way?

i would say that he has mastiff in him, what a sweet looking dog. on the matter of running off and playing all the time he is still in puppy stages. how is he on the recall, i would put him on a long lead and when you want him to come you call him and start to real him in. get into a circle of friends that dont mind your dog and does not think that he is going to do anything nasty. get him to socilastion classes and then he may not be as hyper when he meets new dogs.

definatly mastiff or even great dane mix! to be honest in my opinion i dont see any staffy in the what so ever!

Hi there not that i'm experienced like some of the others on here but when i saw the first piccie when he was little he reminded me of a boxer. Doesn't really matter what cross he is tho he's a lovely looking dog. Your right about this being a good site we have got loads of help,support and advice from the folks on here. Ann

Can i ask does he have a ridge like that on his back all the time ? or was he looking at something he did't like ? If he does you have a Ridgeback cross Stafford

If not i agree that he is a boxer / mastiff / stafford

Nice looking lad though regardless

I'd have said Mastiff too, especially with his dark muzzle and oh what a Rhodesian Ridgeback stripe down his back in one picture. He's a gorgeous lad who sounds as though he just needs a bit of training and socialisation

Great Looking Dog.

His colour and mask remind me of our dog.

I am guessing mastiff as when Sookie was a small puppy (6 weeks) the staff at pets at home thought she was a baby mastiff. She just never grew into one!

Sam, he's great at recall and sit,down,bed,Off,wait,leave and "toilet" where he will pee on command too haha he's great on the lead and never pulls, he won't eat till he's given the command, even waits for us to enter and exit the house first.... it's just when there are distractions of either dogs or cats.
Social wise he is absolutly supurb, I try nit to over exercise him because of his age but I take him out on regular 3 mile bike rides, 2 walks a day in woods, he pulls me for nearly a mile on my bike with his harness lol

I do have a long line, it's just it gets tangled up in the woods or risk tripping up the daughter Smile

. also he tends to not bolt off when it's attatched so makes us think that he's grown out of it but when he's "free" he knows I can't stop him

Little sod! reckon he does have mastiff in him too! dammit does that mean I can't play here anymore? sad

TBH I can't see any stafford in him.

Mastiff/boxer, but he also quite long bodied, so could well have ridgeback in him...is his back always like that, or was he alert?

He really looks to have boxer in him as a pup I think & as he's grown he looks to have more mastiff showing through. He's a lovely looking boy I must say. I love the 2nd pic. How cute are those ears!

I'd put money on Staffy x Boxer
Or just possibly Staffy crossed with a boxer mastiff cross

Daft question but how tall is he? I know you can see how huge he is next to your daughter but out of interest from floor to shoulder how tall is he, and how big is his neck?

Hiya mate, he is about 22 inches to the shoulder (just measured it, thought it was 20!), his neck is about 17 inches, but his head is 20 inches around.

As I said, he will be nearly a year in Mid Nov.....so I guess he still has a few months to put on more weight.
He's 30Kgs at the moment and totally lean.

Well with Staffs they grow until they are 3, legs for year one, body for year tow, head for year three, obviously I can't say for sure about yours but I'd be interested to keep track of it and see how big he turns out to be!
