My poor dogs

Post by watts1974 on Thu 05 Nov 2009, 19:23

First topic message reminder :

My next door but one neighbour is letting industrial type fireworks off in his garden, Dougal is a quivering wreck, Lola thinks its great Gracies in some sort of a trance and Vader had just gone outside for a wee when he let one off and he ran in here like all the hounds of hell were after him

Its very hard to ignore them when they are quite obviously distressed.

I have to say in fairness they can't have meant to have a go as neither one of them has so much as a scrape, scratch nothing, its just really, really wound me up because its not their fault.

Last night they were fine they had the rescue remedy and they were ok (ish) the people at the bottom of the garden were lighting these huge paper ballon things that they let go (thats never safe?) and the neighbours had some more one of which flew into the garden and missed Eloise by about an inch, under normal circumstances I wouldn't let them have a go at the neighbours but last night thought sod t and let her vent at them!

Really? What about the distance that people should be from these industrial fireworks? Surely there is something to be said about letting them off in gardens.

How were your guys last night?

They were ok, the rescue remedy spray seems to work immediately on them. I can't say they were their normal selves but since the first night we've had no aggression and no shaking they just stay close to me but in a calmer way - if that makes any sense at all.

Yeah that makes sense. Glad the rescue remedy is working. Its awfull when they shake as there isn't much you can do except be there for them.

It must be that much harder for you with 4 because if one goes they all pick up on it. I noticed with Vinnie last week that Gizmo was starting to pick up on it so we paid all our attention to Gizzy and did ignore Vins. It was bloody hard and inside i was crying with him but it DID work albeit over about 4 nights leading up to last night which was the MASSIVE display.
Am hoping that next year it will be a walk in the park. The thing that surprised me most though was it didn't appear to be the noises he was terrified of, it was the lights.

Our problems were resolved with Millie in a way didn't expect. We had hell on Thursday, we drugged her on Friday (never ever again!) & all was fine on Saturday & Sunday. I will do a thread about my encounter with a trainer. Glad things got better for you Watts.
