Great advice - NOT!

Post by Robyn on Mon 06 Jul 2009, 06:50

I was at the pet store today - you know those huge ones, no animals but lots of fun toys, treats, beds, food etc. Well, I was talking to the girl behind the counter (who I thought would be in the know) and I told het that my Jazz is due to have pups next week. When I mentioned that she was going to the vet tonight for a check up, she told me that I should book her in for a cesaerian because very few staffy's can whelp pups on their own so I would be better off just booking her in. silly

I know this is rubbish advice, but as if I wasn't nervous enough anyway!

Total Sh** advice. Ignore it. I'd take the advice of the Vet than some one behind a counter

Someone else on this forum asked about staffy's having trouble with giving birth but i think it's a myth. If in doubt, call your vet & get a true answer. Good luck with Jazz & the pups. Let us know how she goes.

We had a visit to the vet tonight - just for a check up. The vet said that staffy's do seem to have a bit more trouble than other breeds. She gave me some great advice and told me to stop researching lol She said the Jazz is in fantastic condition and loved her to bits - how could you not!

She has booked us in for a pregnancy x-ray tomorrow - so i will know how many pups to expect.

She said he is a good idea to have the xray then when she is in labour, i know how many to expect.

She ran through how to take Jazz's temp, when to call a vet during labour (if there is green discharge or more than 2 hours between pups), discussed giving oxytocin during labour if needed, breaking the pups' sac if Jazz doesn't do it. She is putting together some stuff for me tomorrow.

She told me to stop researching in a joking way because I am getting contradicting information that is stressing me out.

Thats really good advice to have in the back of your mind, just incase. I'm sure she will do great with you by her side & the vets prob right. Dont let yourself get stressed! It's a natural thing & Jazz will pick up on you being stressed.
