a good walk spoiled.....

Post by athomp800 on Sat 07 Nov 2009, 13:50

I've just be walking Jake and have to share the experience!!
on the way to the woods where we normally go we have to cross a field. There was an old man with a lovely border collie type dog doing some obedience type stuff on the field, me and jake were nowhere near him. Of course the inevitable happened and the old man put the dog's lead on once he'd spotted Jake. This doesn't bother me really, as i always think it may be their dog who's unreliable. Anyway as we were walking past, (Jake not taking a bit of interest in his dog!) he shouted over 'i don't trust THEM!' as he pointed at Jake!!! i couldn't believe it, i looked at Jake who was merrily trotting along looking so calm and relaxed and shouted over 'oh he only eats children'. The old man obv didn't pick up my sarcasm and looked at me in disbelief and said 'wot did u say' so i replied 'he's fine with dog's its just children he likes to eat'
again the old man was oblivious to my sarcasm and said 'they're good with kids actually!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' i couldn't believe he was trying to educate me about my own dog, i just shook my head and said 'you don't say.....' i think by now he had picked up on my sarcasm and just staffy-shuffled on his way.

If these people are going to insist on doing the staffy shuffle, why not just do it!! don't explain yourself or point out ur ignorance to me I'm not interested in why you're putting ur dog's lead on and scurrying off, just do it and be on your way!!!!!! my jake is a lazy lump of loveliness and would not hurt a fly (may a squirrel given half a chance ) but if u choose not to get to know him don't try and make small talk with me, i don't want to know!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for letting me rant i feel better now

well perhaps i should of taken me video camara out with me today ! we were walking buddy and busta(our jrt) and along came a bunch of load swearing teenagers buddy just carried on walking minding his own but yet busta was as noisey as i have ever heard him so much for sbt being the dogs to watch !
our walk continued then as we reached the field i let buddy off his lead before realising that there was a man walking his rottie off lead the other side of the field they kinda clocked each other but then just carried on with their walks ..shame the same could not be said by the owner he looked at me with this dissapproving face grabbed his dog and walked off all the while walking and looking back to see where my dog was !......so it goes to show even those who own other so called 'dangerous' breeds can show ignorance angry

Daft old codger. Like gordo said, border coliies can be terrible with other dogs and snappy with people too. I thought you handled it well, I would've wanted to tell him to eff off!

you handled the situation really well

Not sure about you but have you found it getting worse walking your boy since the last child got attacked?

I have noticed in my village that people with dogs are giving me a wide berth despite knowing me and my dogs. These people used to talk to me and comment on how well my dogs were but now they avoid me like i am walking the devil himself !!

Don't take it personally because i put my dogs on the lead if i see another dog. I don't care what type of dog it is i won't let mine off until i am told it is friendly.
If everyone did this i am sure we would have less fights.

i'm not normally bothered when people put their dogs on a lead, they could be doing for any number of reasons, but this old boy actually pointed out to me why he'd done it!!!! if only they knew how gorgeous our dogs are

Yes but he was stupid and old. Don't worry about it although i know that is easier said than done. I spent all Sunday afternoon last week devastated becasue someone i went to school with had put on Facebook that anyone with a staffy dog should have their kids taken off them because they are killer dogs!!!
It was even more upsetting because i thought she was an alright person BUT she was in bottom set for everything at school so i guess she couldn't read the breed standard even if she wanted to - bless lol.

Cheeky old get, you should given him a left hook in the gob laughing

Seriously, when I had Harley at P@H when he was 10 weeks old I was carrying him around this old wife said 'I like you now but I'll not when you're older' talking to the dog and not even looking at me. Rude old cow. angry
