Goopy eyes
Goopy eyes
I have a 3 month old staffy and we noticed this morning that one of her eyes was super goopy and had a lot of discharge around it. Well we were told to get some saline and put it in her eyes and we did that. The "meat" part of her eye that helps it move (Sorry don't know the actual name lol) is really red and normally you can only see it a little in the corner or if she's looking far up, but today you can see it if she's just laying there and it seems inflammed. I was curious if anyone had any ideas of what we can do or if they've had the problem before.
Thank you!
Thank you!

We're going to, I was just trying to get some ideas. We live by a military base, and it takes forever to get appointments to see the vet on base lol.

Re: Goopy eyes
Just today, she plays with my neighbors boxers and we think that maybe the boxer just got some of her saliva in her eye or maybe she just got dirt. It looks like it's just irritated. We put a few eye drops of just saline so hopefully that will help her.
I feel bad because 2 weeks ago she got poison ivy too lol. She's a little trooper though, didn't each or whine or anything.

Hopefully it's that. she's not itching at her face or anything... so, I don't know. hopefully it'll go away on it's own.

Re: Goopy eyes
Hi jmindeed, sounds like an eye infection, could have scratched it while playing with the boxer. Just keep bathing it in saline/boiled salt water till you can see the vet, if it gets worse id see a vet off base if you can.
Hope it gets well soon

Staffies can have problems with narrow tear ducts which means you can get nodules of gloop in the corner of the eye from time to time. Obviously first check it out with the vet though. Roxy has narrow tear ducts, we clean ever day or so in saline solution but it doesn't really cause any problems. A few other staffies I know have the same thing.
Re: Goopy eyes
Ruby had an infection in the eye. i think it was an infection. She like to smell the grass and believe a grass blade must of hit her in the eye.
Anyway the vet gave soem eye drops. Applied it for 2 days and all was well.
I notice gooey stuff everyday (especially after sleeping) and the white of her eyes are reddish but I think this is normal. Dont look swollen

Tonks has very mild conjunctivits at the moment and has ointment for it. Previously i have used cold tea for dogs eyes as it is supposed to have the same ph as the eye and is soothing. I used it for my fox hound cross for years.
