Bezial has a death wish!
Bezial has a death wish!
Sitting watching Tv tonight I saw our seven month old amstaff out of the corner of my eye trotting out of our bedroom with what appeared to be a twig in his mouth. Not trusting him from previous experience, I grabbed him by the collar (you have to get them quick or they eat the evidence!) to see what this "twig" would be composed of as real twigs dont last all that long and are very rarely toted around proudly in his mouth. After prizing his mouth open (no mean feat) I saw a chunk of beige wire chewed down to the copper...hmmm! Ok, time to check for the damage! We have been putting things like remote controls up out of his way (he steals everything that he can reach and at almost 4 1/2 ft tall when on his back legs thats quite a lot of stuff!) and anything else (especially plastic) that we care about in any way as plastic is his FAVOURITE thing to devour (hard, soft, he doesnt care!). We slowly walked into our room (not wanting to have to wade through all of the pine cone pieces etc from his previous disections in our room) to find the floor littered with white pieces of chewed cable (about 1/2 a metre in total). He chewed the cable from the light at the end of our bed that was plugged in! The only reason that he is not chewing St Peters hem as we speak is that the light had previously been tripped somehow (the power) and wasnt working. We chastised him all the way out of the room and as he passed the power cable that we plug our dehumidifier into, he decided to have a bit of a chomp!!AAARRGGGHHH is he just plain stupid or does he have a death wish? Let me know what your dogs have eaten as ours seems to be eating for the queen! He eats shoes, window frames, entire garden hoses (that he pulls into the house through his dog door whilst still attached to consume at his leisure...), my daughters lunch box lid (only the lid mind you...) the same daughters prize "Bernard Fanning (local band powderfinger)" slipper (again only one thus rendering the pair useless and causing extreme anger), we havent been able to leave the bathroom door open for a few months now as he eats toilet paper (entire rolls), he ate the toilet brush, drinks from the toilet, he ate my husbands hairbrush etc..., he rips and shreds every toy that we have bought for him especially if they make any sort of noise (intended or accidental), he eats door stops, anything that has wood on or in it, the list is endless about the only thing that he WONT eat is dog biscuits! There is a bowl of an expensive brand of dog biscuit sitting in our kitchen totally untouched that will still be there in a years time if we dont throw them out as he HATES dog biscuits. Sigh...I think that we are going to have to start turning off, unplugging and removing all electrical things to our room each time that we go out. He also ate my precious hot water bottle , on the bed and made sure to drip it all over the bed and it was only discovered in the afternoon on a particularly cold day when we had to suffer sleeping in sleeping bags that night (which he tried to eat the next day!). People say that we should exercise him more but I would have thought that an hour walk in a busy city would be enough excitement per day! Plus all of the play fighting that we all give him throughout the day and the fact that he has free range of the entire yard (mole crickets beware!). At 7 months we know that he is still just a pup but at 30 kilos he most certainly doesnt look like one and he can almost pull us around the house by a sock (yes, stolen!). If I do not make any posts for a while it will be because we are saving up for a new pc! sigh...
Remember, let us know what your dogs have eaten so that we can at least feel a bit better about our "loveable" mutt! Misery loves company :o)
Oops! I forgot to mention the credit and bank cards and wallet (thank goodness that there was no cash in it at the time...) that he ate and that had to be replaced. He has never touched any of my guitars (I have 14 now) as of yet but I am not taking any chances now! Here he is, all shagged out after a hard evenings chewing up wires!

Re: Bezial has a death wish!
Oh i thought we were theonly ones still going through this
Tyson is now 8 months old and i thought that he would grow out of it by now...but no. Everything you have mentioned Bezial has eaten..Tyson has done the same. He has now gotten into the habit of waking up in the middle of the night and destroying anything he can reach in the kitchen. The past 3 nights he has destroyed diaries..VERY expensive sunglasses, bills (which im not really concerened about too much lol) newspapers, a bag of tealight candles and the list goes on. So before we went to to sleep last night we moved everything up higher so that he wont be able to reach. This morning when i was getting ready for work i took my eyes off him for a second and found him chewing my extremely expensive digital camera which was in its case thank god which we managed to drag off the table. He eats anything and everything he can reach!! I cant wait for him to grow out of this! How much longer is this going to go on for??

lol this is so funny when its not happening to me!!! I can remember when we first got Roxy and she was chomping away on my perscription sunglasses!!! Was not impressed! I think they all go through this stage, so far Hanna has been good, just a small nibble on the window sill, she was trying to get the ants walking along the outside!!
My brother also has 2 staffys, and he found out the hard way, what happens when you leave them alone with a beanbag bed for the day!! Beans everywhere!!!!!!
Looked like snow!!
We have LOTS of chew toys for Hanna and Roxy, and keep rotating them each day, so they have something new to chew. Good Luck!!
