The war in Afganistan
Just been reading a couple of news stories about 2 of our lads killed out there, it brought a lump to my throat, 2 more wives left husbandless and 4 kids fatherless, its terrible, I dont agree with the war and dont think we should have ever gone there in the first place. But its too late to pull out now isnt it? to pull out now would be such a waste of all the time and resources that have been spent overe there, but even more so a waste of human life of all the men and women who have been killed, but then to pull out would guarantee no more loss of life.
Its a tough one to call.

Re: The war in Afganistan
I don't know a great deal about politics to be honest - largely because I think all politicians are idiots. However I think we should all be grateful that there are still people who are willing to fight for our country, and parents, husbands/wives and children who live in fear every day that they may never see their loved ones again, who still allow them to go out there and do what they believe is right.

Re: The war in Afganistan
They do deserve so much more respect than they get...it's great about the charities for when they get killed or wounded but the Government should be doing more to protect them whilst they are out there...like getting them the right kit that they need.
Saw Gordon Brown on telly this morning..he named all the first names of the five killed by the poiliceman at the checkpoint..made me cringe it was so false and patronising to their families.
Sad that there are so many young people of today on the remembrance plaques for this poppy day.

Re: The war in Afganistan
This is close to my heart. My 21 year old son (despite much, much desparate begging from me) has joined the army. He starts in March.
Earlier tonight, I had an idea. I have enough savings to buy him a franchise. when I see him again on Monday I'll suggest that he changes his mind and I'll get a franchise for him instead. I seriously hopes this works.

They shouldn't be there in the first place. We have NO reason to be in Afghanistan. We couldn't win their in the late 1800's we can't not. Thank God I quit the TA when I did.

Re: The war in Afganistan
its an unwinnable war. the powers that be say its because there is a threat of al quaida training there. but they train in pakistan but we dont interfere in there politics.they hate americans but want the aid money.
all they need is a match and a gallon of petrol and theres a terrorist.
our young soldiers are giving there lives for opium and oil.
im so proud of them all.

Re: The war in Afganistan
i am going to be totally honest.
Imo we have no right being there we can't win . Honest decent men are dying and there is nothing we can do about it.
IMO i feel we should in the UK push Christianity, it the religin of the UK. Anyone who enters this country should accept that and if not then tuff! as it would be if we went to their countries!!
All muslims that are extreme should be sent to the country they belong to.
Gates should be shut during these times. NO EXCUSE!
Too many good men are dying , families loosing their fathers, sons and brothers and for what ? I can;t work it out as the Afganistans are not greatful, in fact they turn on the very men who trained and trusted them.
is there really any more to say ?

my son whos now 21, wanted to join the army last year, he went through his teens within the TA, and really had his heart set on jining the army, he went for medical etc, and because of an old injury to his arm from when he was 12, he couldnt be accepted, he was deemed unsuitable for army entry, he was totally gutted. his friend joined last year, and was in afghan, and saw his friend killed right next to him. IMO they should just bring them home, lots are getting killed, and leving familys who loved them sooo much, its not fair, get them home.

Shouldn't be there in the first place and we should pull out now, countries like Afghanistan don't want a democracy like us in the west anyway, this war will never end otherwise!

Re: The war in Afganistan
We couldn't win twice in the 1800's in Afghanistan with one of the greatest Armies the World at that point had seen. The Russians couldn't win despite their numbers and superior firepower.
Thank God though none of our troops have been subjected to some of the horrors the Russians were, such as the Afghan 'pullover'.
I'm hugely proud of being British and always have been in awe of the old fellas who went and did their duty to keep us all free. However I've been against the whole 'War on Terror' since the whole sham began with Bush dragging us into a war we didn't want.
