Have you been to your doctors for help with stopping smoking - my neice has recently stopped and done it through her doctors and she is now officially a non-smoker.

I stopped approx 16 years ago and havent looked back

Good Luck and let us know how you are doing - you can do it !

all i know is nicorette gum and patches dont do nothing, tried them both and made no difference to me. My nan smoked for 30 odd years and she went to a hypnotist and gave up within an hour... i heard something recently about they come up with these new tablets that supposedly wipe nicotine cravings from your mind and if you smoke when ur taking these it makes u physically sick, i think they r still being trialled atm though.

Amanda - They really dont work surprise ? not too long ago on tv all these scientists were bigging up these tablets saying how great they were and would basically guarentee people would quit smoking if they took these tablets, looks like they fail another invention then Big grin

Steve - i dont think patches work for many people mate, they say they put some sort of nicotine into your blood stream but on the mental side if you dont have something in your mouth its not gonna help lol. Try the gum, some people think its great, although it never worked for me. It just puts a nasty taste in your mouth if you have a fag after having the gum.

yea chewing gum is bad, when ur constantly chewing its telling your brain that your eating, yet your actually not which makes you feel hungrier. I guess im ok though coz i can eat as much as i want and not put on any weight lol, i have a good metabolism Big grin im sure it will catch up with me as i get older though haha

Don't give up Steve. You're right the first days are the hardest. I quit about ten years ago without any help (chewing gum or patches etc.). We have friends and they also had patches, but despite of these things they still smoked. The only advice I can give is: think about all the money you save (well on the other hand - that's no advice, because otherwise I had to be a "millionaire" and I'm not rolling on the floor ).
