i was wondering should i make this forum a members only forum?
so people have to register to view posts,

Sometimes I think that prospective members want to do a little window shopping before committing themselves to joining a forum - - not all forums will be everyones cup of tea as it where but then again they could join and if they dont like it then they can always leave and ask for there account to be deleted so on that note I am going to say no.
Also maybe if you have a members only policy it may put people off joining.

could always keep a few forums open to the public so they can see what its like, then have to register to see the important forums.

Yeah that gives them some insight then into what the forum is all about and how it works and I also think that asking them to introduce themselves first is a good idea then allow them more access to the main forums.

First opinion NO ! But if you decide to do it, then i'll agree with Jay and lock just a few threads, like the chat room and general conversations etc. Leave a sample of threads open to the non members.
No ifs...No buts...

hard one to call on both counts....
good to keep some thing back,but then you need some thing to make you wont to join...
wot about maken some sections avable,but the best and most popular sections locked till you join....
and the new setions on pits and co will bring more peeps a bull breed is allways popular....
