jessie passed away peacefully with me and the vet by her side on friday 2nd of jan 2009, she had become a very poorley girl who no longer enjoyed life.

she may have been a cross breed staffie but she was as stubborn as a staffie.

I gave her a little breakfast yesterday of scrambled egg and buttery toast, her favourite. I couldn't fuss her too much because then I'd get really upset again and she'd get all worried. I was fine until I started to get ready to take her then I went to pieces a bit. At the vets the receptionist was so good, she knew Sally really well because we were pretty much regulars there over the last year or so, and Sally was a character because she hated going everytime and would ...

Anyone who considers a pet a beloved friend, companion, or family member knows the intense pain that accompanies the loss of that friend. Following are some tips on coping with that grief, and with the difficult decisions one faces upon the loss of a pet.

1. Am I crazy to hurt so much?

Intense grief over the loss of a pet is normal and natural. Don't let anyone tell you that it's silly, crazy, or overly sentimental to grieve!

During the years you spent with your pet (even if they were ...

We never wanted memories

We only wanted you

A million times we needed you

If love alone could have saved you

You never would have died

In life we loved you dearly

In death we love you still

In our hearts you hold a place

No one could ever fill

Since you'll never be forgotten

We pledge to you today

A hallowed place within our hearts

Is where you'll always stay

She was just days away from being put to sleep, so we had to go and see her. She'd been badly abused and left on the streets to fend for herself. Nobody wanted her because she was 8 years old...I guess she wasn't like the other younger dogs and puppies but I knew straight away that she was the one for us.

when we lost him.. it almost stopped me from getting another dog, but he taught me all the wonderful things about dogs and how fun it is to grow up with one.. he really cemented Staffordshire Bullterriers into my heart..

This is him ages 14years(3weeks before he was PTS)

In our bereavement, we spend different lengths of time working through each step and express each stage more or less intensely. The five stages do not necessarily occur in order. We often move between stages before achieving a more peaceful acceptance ...

From a young age, children begin to understand the concept of death, even though they may be unaware of it at a conscious level.

When a pet is dying, it may be more difficult for a child to resolve the grief experienced if the child is not told the truth. Adults should avoid ...

Dollar was a very special little guy that came into our care a few weeks ago. He had been dumped in a local industrial park and had a developmental defect that left him with two deformed back legs (his kneecaps were on the wrong side of his legs, along with other problems). He was left into a local vet, who kindly operated on one of his legs to try to improve his quality of life.
