Basic dinner for my girls....THEY GOBBLE IT UP!!

Post by molly28_1998 on Tue May 06, 2008 5:23 am

Here is the basic recipe i use for my girls, I received this recipe from a Staffy breeder who has put together quiet a range of recipes, my girls have eaten every one!!

Basic Beef or Kangaroo
3kg minced beef or roo (cooked) All human grade of meats....pet meat contains additives.
2kg skinless minced chicken necks
1kg pasta or rice(dry weight)cooked
1 cup dried soup mix (soak for a few hours) or beans or lentils I normally just use canned.
1kg cooked minced grated or diced mixed veggies I just by the no-name brand(can use carrots, peas, potato, spinach)Never use onions they can be toxic to dogs.
1 cup Oat Bran
1/4 cup of tomato paste
50mls sunflower oil
50mls fish oil
1 cup LSA (Linseed, Sunflower and Almond grounded)
2tblspn Kelp powder (from health food shops)
2tblspn beef stock powder
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp salt.

Basically cook all your meat, veggies and pasta, and let cool down, then add everthing else. According to Julie, the author of these recipes 333gm servs daily will sustain an active, muscular 18kg SBT, in show condition.

Good luck, im sure your dogs will love it!!

Thanks Molly. I will try it (no, not me surprise , Shoei of course Big grin) when I've translated some of the ingredients. Don't have skippies over here, so I'll use beef tongue .

garlic is a no no.......even processed.....same vege group as onion.

mine basically eat all that stuff.....sans onion/garlic......
...but on different days & mixed with a quality dry kibble.

food alone wont keep a dog trim & fit.

good tucker & adequate exercise is the go.

hi all, just have a few mins....

The recipes that i have posted were given to me by a staffy breeder who has used these for several years with her dogs. there was some info with the recipes explaining ingredients... ok here is her explaination...
:- Salt and Spices...."I add very small amounts of salt for flavour, I use so little salt I'm not concerned with it, but I'll let you decide?"
:- "Garlic is added to many pet foods today, as usual it was already in use in the home cooked dog foods for years prior. Its said to help win intestinal health and also apparently can help with flea control, we do not have nay problems with fleas and our dogs are inside dogs-but mostly I feed it for flavour." Also she has this website for garlic info.

As with everthing, you can use your own judgements. Also these recipes are then devided up into 330gm meals, so the traces of the above ingredients are minimal. You can always just leave them out. Big grin

Just curious...is the 330gm meal given twice a day? Cause when i cooked up a batch of this stuff for tyson...i divided the meals into two lots which equaled to 400gm...i gave Tyson one lot in the morning and one lot in the evening. He seemed to always be hungry tho so i started adding 1/2 a cup of dry food to it aswell. Was i not feeding him right?

Hi Esther, Just reading threw Julies recipe book.... She has written here that "330g daily-sustains an active, muscular 18kg SBT, if your dog is smaller or larger, or less active, adjust quantity as necessary".

I find that I give Roxy 1/2 of the 330gm in the morning and half in the arvo. also some dry food too, as well as some treats or fruit. Hanna gets this too as well as puppy porridge etc.

The main reason I chose to make these for my girls, was that at least i knew 100% what they were eating. With Molly dieing from cancer to the spleen and liver, im just not confidant that what i was giving her (pet meat etc) that it didnt some what contribute to the cancer. Also I wanted them to be free of added perservative and colors etc that are in pet foods.
I think with Tyson, just adjust the meals accordingly to his appertite. Smile
